Which part of USA are you going to? East Coast or West Coast? I live in N. California and the weather here now is getting warmer. Of course, it depends on if you get used to weather change in a day or not. In HK, the average temperature may be 2X but in here (my home), it can be around 10 in the morning and 2X at noon and back to 10 at night. I would say some areas are foggy and windy in the morning and at night. So, you need some thick jackets for your son or yourselves but may not need down jackets. Also, dress your son in layers rather than giving him turtlenecks or thick sweaters. Otherwise, you can end up carrying a lot of clothes on the road.
Any of your family members would drive? If you have to rent a car and drive yourselves, it is better to apply the international driver license now as it takes a bit of time.
If you want to know anything about USA, I can try to answer. Hope you have a nice trip with your dad.作者: ~仔仔媽咪~ 時間: 10-3-23 08:56

I'm not sure if magazines and books are really cheaper as compared to HK. But, when there's sale promotion, everything can be cheap (of course, you need to add sales tax). I bought new released Harry Potter books at around US$12.99 some years ago. If you go to some local bookstores or department stores, sometimes you can find good deals too. For musical instructions or items, I am not familiar with. I cannot give any idea but I have seen CD on sale in Virgin Shop or nationwide bookstores such as Borders. You can take a look when you have time. They have shops in major shopping malls or downtown.
Other inexpensive stuff my friends or relatives would buy when they travel to here include: -
1) Gap / Old Navy : especially for kids, there are always sale in the store or online. It can be $2 each tee shirt, $4 each a pair of pants.
2) philosophy : if you use this brand, it is cheap in here. I know that all the philosophy stores have been closed in HK.
3) tennis balls (if you play tennis)
4) sports apparels and shoes
5) digital camera or camcorder
6) computer items / cellphone
For electronic appliances, you have to consider the voltage and system difference of HK and US. Honestly speaking, when there is sale, you can find things real cheap. Now, with the soft economy, there's sale or discount all the time. Moreover, if you visit outlets, you can find things even lower in prices. The tradeoff is that the items maybe out of season.作者: ~仔仔媽咪~ 時間: 10-3-24 09:14
