My daughter is now 21 months old. My husband and I took her to the swimming pool in the club house yesterday. It was the first time she had gone swimming. We expected that she would love it very much as she loves bathing and playing with water a lot. Yet out of our expectation, she cried and did not want to stay in the water. We took the hello kitty lifebelt that she always puts on the ground and sits. But she refused to play it in the water. We just don't know why.

What was your baby's reaction the first time you took her/him to swim?

我個囡第一次游泳都一樣, 好驚又喊, 後來去d淺水區 (要佢企到的位置) warm up 下就好 d.

I also tried to make her stand in the baby pool where the water only comes up to her knees. But she still cried and requested to leave.

I will try again this weekend. Hope she will love swimming one day.

小朋友鍾意玩水，但唔代表佢一定鍾意游水。

屋企嘅浴缸係佢熟悉嘅環境，加上啲水係暖嘅，佢自然好鍾意玩水，但去到游泳池，首先係一個陌生嘅環境，加上水温相對係凍啲，小朋友未必可以即時習惯，如果一開波就拉咗佢落水，佢都未適應到，反而會令佢好驚！

你可以先係池邊等隻脚仔“掂”下水先，最好带定啲桶仔，鏟仔比佢“but” 下水，如果有梯级，可以比佢坐係到玩下啲地玩具，可以带啲rubber duck之類會浮的玩具，等佢玩得咁上下，你可以将啲玩具放逺啲，然後叫佢行出去拾番佢，好似同佢玩遊戲咁。當然要一步一步來，等佢慢慢適應水温，加埋有啲玩具distract佢，佢就無咁驚啦！

我囡囡差唔多歲半第一次去海灘游水,
一直喺淺水位置度坐水泡,
仲要我一直攬實佢,
佢雖然無喊但成日都眼紅紅,
直至到半途我捉住佢隻手仔撥水,
佢就笑到咔咔聲, 但係笑完又係驚驚,
之後上岸玩沙無再落水~
第二次我媽帶佢去泳池嬉水,
佢坐左陣已經唔驚, 仲自己周圍行,
到前兩日帶佢去掘蜆,
佢見到個海已經大叫, 好開心咁,
然後自己行入水中, 當然我地睇實佢,
但係佢已經要坐喺水中掘沙, 唔想喺沙灘度玩,
所以step by step係可行既,
當然亦要帶埋佢地d玩具仔啦~
又乘機晒下相先~

I see. My daughter held me tight last time and refused to sit on the hello kitty lifebelt. We still haven't gone swimming for the second time. Probably we will go this weekend. I will bring a little bucket and other things for her to play. Hope she will enjoy it.

By the way, your daughter is cute. How old is she now?

佢因為知道自己無得反抗所以勉強就範落水泡,

Yes, our lifebelt is very similar to yours, but ours is pink in colour.

I think it is a good idea to take her to the beach. If she doesn't want to play water, she can play the sand.

You know, we have brought her a very expensive swimming suit from Jusco ($2xx). It won't fit her anymore next year. I must take her to swim more often before it becomes cold.

my son is the same. he tried swimming once when he was 13 months old. then again when he is 22 months old. both times he was so scared and held on to us so tightly. but after two more times within two weeks, he is now no longer scared and do not want to leave when it is time to go.

依家諗住買多套一條頭俾佢,
下次一定會監佢著
帶佢去沙灘好過泳池呀,
雖然家陣D沙灘都污漕, 但係我覺得D水流動量比泳池大,
點都好少少, 而且小朋友可以玩下沙,
陽光與海灘... 正
我上次係去清水灣2灘, D水真係好污漕下,
反而掘蜆個灘游出少少ok,
不過就唔太方便~
下次如果有充足時間我地會試下去半月灘,
水清沙幼一流, 不過要坐船仔博腳比較煩~

其實本來我都以為個個小朋友都鍾意玩水,
係見到個女落到沙灘咁驚先知原來係要適應,
依家我準備訓練佢企喺度沖涼,
因為屋企無浴缸再大D個盆就唔夠佢沖啦~

I won't go so far away. I live in Tuen Mun and there is a beach near our place. I will just bring her there.

Yes, it won't take me long to go to Gold Coast Beach. And there is also the Butterfly Beach near my place.

Last Sun, I finally took my daughter to swim for the scond time. But to save time, we went to the swimming pool of the club house only.

This time, I brought her duck and turtle. At the beginning, she was still a bit afraid. But then she was not, and she walked to and fro in the water with no fear. I am really glad about this. And she still did not want to go after playing for over an hour!

恭喜！恭喜！成功了！

其實唔肯用水泡都唔緊要，反而我個大女细個时惯咗用水泡，到學游水时仲難克服無嘢輔助嘅恐懼感，成日都要攬住個水泡！

所以到细仔时，我都唔點比佢用水泡，只係攬住佢游來游去，佢好快就唔怕水，四歳未够已经可以係唔到地嘅大人池“味”水。佢唔鐘意水泡，覺得被困住晒，但而家就鍾意用浮板。
