perhaps you can try "mei fan" or ABC pasta or udon cut into smaller pieces. Actually, rice is also OK. How about mashed potato or sweet potato? My daughter prefers Chinese style food ie she loves to eat char siu with rice and choy choy but I know my nieces and nephews love to eat Western style food ie tomato spaghetti with meat sauce. So it is worth experimenting with different tastes.
Do not be afraid to try all kinds of foods, now that your bb is one years old, he can eat anything except for honey, peanuts and cow's milk provided you watch him eat and he does not choke on the food. If you are more adventurous now, there is less a chance he will become a fussy eater when he gets older. HOwever, if you are too conservative now, he will become very fussy over his food and will be a very slow eater.
