My maid's last day of work will be this Friday and her visa expires this Saturday (May 4). Weeks ago, she told me that she would like to go back to the Philippines first so I booked an air ticket for May 4 (her visa expiry date) through Cebu Pacific online.
But then she changed her mind and found a new employer in HK (with contract signed last Sunday). She will go to Immigration Department to deal with her visa matters this Friday and she told me that as she is not sure whether her visa will be released or not, she would like me to change the ticket to an open ticket.
I just glanced through the clauses of Cebu and my understanding is that I can cancel the ticket and rebook a new flight (of course with penalty fee charged, which I don't know how much it is). But my question is: Am I obliged to do so??? I mean, it is she who changed the mind! And would employers ever book open ticket for maids?
Also, is she supposed to apply for a new working visa or an extension of visa this Friday? I asked and she said she had no idea either!
I would appreciate it if anyone can give me some advice.
The Immigration Department will release her new working visa in 3 weeks' time and I have changed the ticket to another date as she requested.
The penalty fee costs more than half the ticket itself (excluding tax etc.). I told her that I would not be held responsible for any penalty fee again if she decides to change her flight again.
