Is it too much for her to do ?

Dear Mummies

Can I share this with you..

My Philipino maid has been with us for 2 years and 3 months, just renewed her contract in Jan 05. i have a nearly 3 year old and a 20 months, both boys...

Since renewal of contract, she recently asked me if she can go home for holiday, no pay for 1 month in April, I quite reclunctant to say no, 3 weeks, no...then come to the conclusion for 2 weeks, but I will be very busy in April because of work and study as well.... She lately has been very forgetful and absent-minded.... I was quite angry because since she has been with us, she already went home twice which meant every year and now this time she has to exit hk for the visa purpose...
She is 44 year old, she work hard, she loves the children(in front of us), but she is not clean enough to my standard, here is a day to her:-
wake up 7.30am, do a bit of kitchen and looks after my little one from 8am, I wake up my eldest and change him to school, she stay home with the litte one and send him to bed again at 10.30am, she work the housework for 1 hour, I need my house very clean becuase I have 2 little dogs as well.. Then, I comehome with my eldest from school at 12 and I went to the market myself. She cooks simply lunch and I will see both of them to after lunch nap by 2.30pm, she will then take a nap and look after them when they both wakes up.. My in-law will come up at 4pm to supervise the house and she cooks dinner and do all the work until 10.30pm to bed. I will work from 2.30-8/9pm.

Is she being treated very nicely or not ? She does things slow and she is not stupid, but I don't see she will have enough energy for my 2 and 3 year old soon, what should I do with her ?

pls kindly advice.

嘩..我覺得你對佢已經好好架啦...比埋佢下午訓教...又咁late先起身..不過佢又老左d既..我諗你遲下都係轉人..換個young d 既..咁就有精力同d小朋友玩啦

1/ she's too old to take care of two childs,
2/ she's being taking too much your advantages,
3/ may be you can offer a chance to other maid and yourself as well ?-(

Hi i agree with other mummies comments, your maid is a bit old for two young kids, i think you really need to find a younger maid to help you at least she has more engery for your babies

My maid is 45 and she often sleepy around 9:00 p.m., she will sleep one to 1.5 hrs, then wake up and do washing up again. However, she is quite impolite to us (sir and I). I think she know she is the only one to take care of our children. Moreover, she is quite old amongst DHs.

From my point of view, your maid is taking your advantage and want to get more and more from you.

Thanks to all the comments, I haven't been up here for a while... sorry ..... yes, I feel the same as in all your comments..... I have finally stood up said to her to postpone her holiday until July.
So, I guess it would be a wise choice to look for another one..... oh on.....I have just renewed her contract in Jan 05.....
what can I do ????

If you terminate her right now is a little bit... because
1. she's old and difficult to find another job
2. If she apply DH again, since she's terminated, she need to pay higher fee to agent. ( some said more than 10 thousands )
3. She has no big mistake
Maybe you can bear her until finish contract. But if there's unreasonable request, refuse her right away.

If I were you I'll not renew the contract as 44 is really too old to take care of so young children. But frankly speake, take care of 2 children + 2 small dogs is really exhaustive. So, I suggest you to discuss with her for the problems,
1. vacation (may agree the other period with her)
2. if she still has enough energy to handle your home
Always try to think on her side...., even we (employers) are always on the weak side (we're so poor....)

Stability & harmony of family is the 1st priority of me. So I will talk to the maid to make her changes at least to fit my schedule, like vacation, time table everyday. As you renewed her, that means she is up to your certain standard !!??

Age - I don't care much on this. My maid is approaching 50, very nice to my kids.

My case is same as yours. My maid also asked for go back home in coming Auguest, but she already back last year.

Your maid wakes up at 7:30am??? That's so early for my maid!!! She wakes up when my daughter get up, that means if my daughter wakes up at 10:00, she will gets up at 10:00!!!

Every morning, when I go out for work(around 7:30), she still sleeping. My daughter needs to school at 9:00 to 12:00. That means she free during this period. After she pick up my daughter, she just feed her simply lunch, and then let her sleep(at around 1:30-4:00), usually she will sleep with my daughter.

After my daughter wakes up, I already back home, that''s her job.

She need not to cook, cause we will go to my mom's home to eat every night, and my home doesn't seem very clean also, cause I can find the kitchen cupboard is so dusty.

I rejected her request, but she didn't show me 'black face'.

She is not so good, or i can say ,she is lazy, but she is really good to my daughter, am I need to 'fire' her???

Hi sorrymonkey,

If I were you, I will fire her right away. I will not allow my maid sleeping with my kids in the afternoon and do nothing at home. I have hired one before since my eldest son was 2 years old. One day my husband went home and saw her sleeping together with my son. That means she always do that and do nothing in the afternoon. Then I fired her right away.

Dear All and sorrymonkey

I really appreciate all the advices.... It is always chicken and eggs situation.... This is the bit..... I don't like to see her sleeping with my kids..... Now.... after seeing my kids after school and lunch, I will ask her to put them to nap first and I tell her to"take a rest" cos I do know that looking after 2 boys and 2 dogs is not a easy job... So, I cannot complaint either when my house is covered in dust....since there are no time for her to clean properly...........but in general, she is not clean enough, ie...small thing like when i smell somehting moudy in the bathroom etc.... I always emphasize to her the standard of cleaning is very important because of the children and dogs together........ maybe for the time being, my little one is going to turn 2 year old in July and he will also be in nursery class and she will only have 1 to look after at any one time until late afternoon.... I agree that she is too old for 2 of 2-3 year old..... but since she has not been making any major disaster and I think I can tolerate her until end of contract. I need someone who is able to look after 2 kids and stamp some authority to them when it is needed... At the moment.... I do half of the job at home myself.... Cos she can only do that much... My mother in laws asks me why I let her sleep in the afternnon when both my2 kids is sleeping, I said you can tell she is running less and less energy towards the end of the day, If I don't let her do that....she would be even more careless and absent-minded which in turn would put my kids in any kind of danger !!!!!

Auh it is hard !

It is too much for her...........advantage.
She is not tired or not enough energy. I think your maid just want to get more and more advantage from you.?-(

I will fire her at this case.
