I'll return to reside in North Shore, Sydney with my 3.5 yrs old girl at summer. She's currently taking K1 in HK. I've no idea about the early education in Sydney and please help:
To continue her education, shall I look for a preschool or a kindergarten for her?
What are the different between preschool, kindergarten and child care?
How can I obtain more info about the preschool, kindergarten and child care in North Shore?
Should I obtain any progress report from her current kinder and the other interested class for the application of preschools in Sydney?
The location of the ideal school for my girl will be the final destination of my family, could anyone provide any suggestion of any region for better education?
Just curious,
for those working mothers, do they all need to pick kids up after preschool hour say 3:00pm and locate them to another day care and back to office?? What's the usual practice of working mothers?

Kids in Australia start school at 5 years old. They do 1 year kindergarten then grade 1 at 6 years old.
For your daughter, she can go to preschool.
You can check this website for some info http://ww ...
some (maybe all, not sure) schools provide after school care, you need to pay for that...

I just browsed around to obtain much info and it seem there's a long waiting lists.
Most likely I may reside at Pymbel, Gordon, Killara or Eastwood. Are there the long waiting lists from those preschools/child cares? Shall I apply now in HK before I arrive at Sydney?
Please advise any recommended Preschools.

Or if you interest in Private school than you can look at "Abbotsleigh Early Learning Centre" which brand new and open at April. But maybe quite full you better e-mail them and check.

I never know Abbotsleigh has preschool too, THX for your information. The school has a very good HSC but it's a private school and I'm thinking about the total cost for K-12 if my girl can go straight forward.
What's the different between a public and a private one (preschool/child care)? The ones run by govt are better or worse? As far as my understanding, both kinds preschool/childcare entitles us to have child care benefit and tax rebates.
Would the preschool I choose be a considerable factor by the K-12 my girl will apply in the future?
Seem the planning of education for kids in Australia is not much simpler than the one in HK!

Actually i think all the pre-school and kinder are private, but the main differenct between eg.the Gordon preschool and Abbotsleigh ELC is the fee. And i heard normal preschool only 2-3 days per week, but Abbotsleigh ELC you can send the children from 2-5 days per week (is more like a childcare but with something to learn).
As i know they are over enrol now (coz i just enrol my daughter for 2 days at the moment, when i recevied their confirmation letter (last Nov)and request for 1 or 2 more days they said they are really full, and now they put those children who are interest to study Kinder on the top of the waiting list. (p.s. i apply the ELC on last Aug) That why you better send e-mail to check with them first. And the ELC is open 7:30am-6:30pm i think is good for your situation.
BTW if you looking for a childcare than you better look for the "Long day care" coz normal childcare will close around 4pm-5pm it may be too rush for you to pick up your daughter. And the childcare fee range from AU$3x-AU$120 depend on area and it that a nor-profit one.
Hope you can get find a nice "school" for your daughter....good luck.

My daughter will be in transition at 2012, so is a yrs later than your daughter lor ^.^
My daughter is a special case as she is the only child have hearing loss at the ELC at the moment, and she also have development delay, speech delay. Actually she need much more attention than the other kids in her age group (2-3 yrs old). And as you know their staff to children ratio is 16:2 (in 2-3 yrs old) therefore my daughter is not having enough attention from the staff.
But if you ask me what i think of the ELC.... i can say they are NEW (therefore may have less experince on handling special need child like my daughter) , their facility is ok (above average and they do keep improving). I can see the other children in 2-3 are so nice to my daughter and me(有禮貌) ... i think the teacher did taught them to take care Phoebe (my daughter), at least she is the little sister in her age group.
But at the moment they only have 1 staff is Asian (but i m not sure can she speck in cantonese or madrine). If your girl not use to all "english" enviroment than she maybe upset for a while, but you know all kids are fast learner, they will get use to it within few months time.
