Hi hi all Aussie Mum,

I plan to take my 6 months baby back to Hong Kong next month by myself. There're sth that I wanna ask about travelling...

First, anyone apply passport for their baby/child lately? Wanna know how long it takes? (I mean from the time you apply the passport @ post office till u actually get the passport back in hand!!"for the normal one not the express one)

Secondly, I'm not sure I can take my pram on the plane with me, I've 3 choices of pram i can take on with me... (1. Valco Runabout 2.Phil and Teds 3.Steelcraft Terrain... ) they are all 3 wheels, a bit more bulkier than those 4wheels....

And finally anything I have to pay attention when I take my baby on broad and overseas? Any special thing I better take with me?

I hope someone can help me out.... Cheers and Thank you very very much!!!!

Hi wongbbb,

We got my son's passport in about 3 weeks' time.

Did you request for the seat with a bassinet when you book the flight? This will come in very handy especially when you're travelling alone.

We didn't take our pram as someone could lend theirs in HK. So I can't answer your question. It's probably best to check with the airline.`

Dress your baby in warm, comfy clothes as it gets pretty cold on the plane. This will probably help him fall asleep easier. Have one or two extra change of clothes in case he spews or dirties the clothes. The same for nappies.

Take along your baby's favourite toy or blanket.

Give him a drink of water during take off and landing to help pop the ear.

My son was teething when we were back in HK last year so we brought baby Neurofen with us. If your baby takes any medication that is not readily available in HK, best to take them with you.

Hope this helps and have a good trip back.

Mind the newly implemented "Fluid restriction". I think this rule is not friendly to a 6 month baby. You can only get the water on board.

Yes a bassinet will be very useful. You must book it as soon as possible and reconfirm a few days before the flights (especially for the return flight). They didn't arrange the front seat for me last time in my return flight even though I booked a bassinet already when I bought the air ticket. We requested for changing seats but refused by a lady seated in the front row.

Try to imagine how to change the diaper with your baby after he goes with the Number Two. Luckily my hubby dealwith it for me last time. He said the toilet is nasty.

Thank you very much for Devlin媽媽 and ptsamm's replies!!

I just applied for the passport 4 my baby on 1 August, plan to go on 17 August... as devlin mama said it takes 3 weeks for process, probably I have to delay my trip then...

I've booked the bassinet already, then I better call the airline a few days before my trip to confirm it.

I'm not sure I've to bring water with me or not, as I'm still fully breastfeeding my boy, and someone told me during the landing and take off, I can let baby suck my nipple, its help alot for popping his ears!!

I've been so excited for my trip, keep thinking & think about it, make me lost sleep these few nights!!

I will try to call the airline and work out things about the pram, as my baby's quite heavy and he still sleep alot, so the pram's quite important for me, anymore Aussie Mum can give me some advises? THanks!!!

Hi wongbbb,

I have experienced a few times taken the baby pram stroller onto the plane from Aus to HK and vis versa. The flight attendent helped me to fold it and stored it and returned to me upon arrival. I am not familiar with baby pram but in my mind, they are bigger than stroller type...can they be folded? If not, I doubt they have rooms to store it. I don't recalled i seen baby prams on board though....well, you could always send it as a luaguage i guess.

I remembered I took my son to Australia and visited his grandma and grandpa, he was 6 months old. With the bassinet, he slept through the night. For that return trip to HK, he also slept most of the time and if he was awake, I would played with him while he was in the bassinet.

Not too worry wongbbb, usually the airplane put a lot of priority for mummy with babies on board. I agreed with other mummies that you need to make sure the airline arranged the bassinet seats for you. Relax and enjoy the coming holiday trip!

Cheers

ngmammy,

Thanks for your reply!!

I tried to send email to the airline and ask about taking the pram to the plane, but they still haven't reply me yet!!

Mine one is a 3 wheels jogger, it can definitely fold up and fit in a normal "toyota" car boots, but still not sure i can take it on the plane or not. If I have to send it together with my luggage, is it count as part of my luggage allowance or not?

I can get some nice sleep these 2 nights, may be I am just too excited about taking my baby back to HOng kong to see my family member. It will be the first time they see my baby.

BTW, It's a surprise trip too as I didn't tell my family, just let my sister know so she can come and pick us up.
