IMS will change your IP address from time to time. I think it's better if you can setup a Dynamic DNS service so as to update your IP address periodically.
FTP is not secure as the ID and password are displayed and transmitted in clear text. I believe that there are many ways to hack into a system (depends on any known exploits or secret exploits). Actually, iIt's really depends on any sensitive information stored in your machine.
