i brought my 300D in Oct 2003 and have took thousands of photos by it. And i have the following equipment:
Lens:
Canon EF 24-85mm f/3.5-4.5 USM (always use)
Canon EF 100-300mm f/4.5-5.6 USM (seldom use)
Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 (always use)
Canon EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 (seldom use)
Tamron SP28-75mm f/2.8 (planning to sell it)
Flash:
Sigma EF500 DG Super / Canon 380 EX
CF Card:
Ultra 512/ Kingston 512/ Kingston 128/Sandisk 128
Digital Wallet:
Tripper with 4GB HD (Brought 2nd hand recently)

Dom,

I am thinking about selling the Tamron as although it has large appertue of f/2.8, it is still not so good in shoting in low light environment (such as indoor at night where flash should be used). So i will still use my 50mm f/1.8 in such situation.
And when i take outdoor photo where i can use a zoom len, i can use my Canon EF 24-85 instead.
So i think i should just keep either one of them. As the Canon EF24-85 is actually owned by my brother, i should just sell the Tamron one.
Are you still interested in it?

I'm planning to buy a 300D but all 300D (Digital Rebel) in Canada are made in Taiwan. I'm currently using G2, and hate the shutter lag and always missed a good shot.

Once I got my wife approved

, I'll buy it. Maybe I'll buy the 50mm 1.8 as well.

To get faster download speed, get a firewire CF card reader.

I am not able to find firewire CF card reader in Hong Kong. I ever found one in Tokyo when I was there in March. However, the price is about HKD8xx, it's quite expensive at this moment.

Yes, of course, using USB2.0 card reader is really fast. Just few mins for 512MB.

I seldom download the CF by directly linking the 300D with my computer, i just used card reader instead.

How about is the Digital Rebel in Canada now? As i heard, the currently market price for 300D in HK is around $7,xxx for kit set. There is also grey market for the Black Verison of the Digital Rebel available for order but it will cost you $8,xxx. The only difference is the colour.

Yes, card reader is a must! Downing photos from 300D to PC is too slow.. sleeping, and spending a lot of battery.

I want to have a try on the Tarmon F2.8 28-70, but I need an external flash more.. and don't have too much spare money to use.. :-(

Yes, external flash is really important. Why you don't consider a Sigma one, i found it quite useful and its not as expensive as the 550EX.

the usual suspects in this group :-P ... I've been v busy with my kid and haven't visited the site lately. I have been using 300D since January and have following:

kit lens
Tamron 28-75mm F/2.8 XR Di
420EX
1GB Microdrive (have been using it for more than 2 years now) the microdrive comes with a PC Card adapter and is quite handy esp i run around with my laptop a lot + 256MB CF
cracked firmware
a $10 wired shutter release :)
and trying to get RC-1 from Japan
also thinking of getting a 50mm lens

I thought there isn't a lot of difference in terms of speed between USB2.0 and IEEE1394? A USB 2 card reader is pretty cheap these days ($1XX) and I think it is a must if you use your camera regular enough because I think the USB interface on the 300D is only 1.0 which is much slower.

The cheapest price I've seen is $1349 CDN+14.5% sales tax. (Remeber to say no when you heard any HK gov't officials who promote sales tax, it's a pain in the behind!:-x ) That's about $9100 HKD for MIT 300D! If I buy in HK, the only thing I'm missing is the warranty.

The cheapest firewire CF reader I've seen here is about $600 HKD. I guess the bottleneck will be the read/write speed of the CF.

Yes, I will go for Sigma 500 Super, as I usually use center point focus only. 500Super is fine.
