My daughter had the same problems when she was about 8 months old. She didnt eat if I feed her with spoon, unless she feed herself by hands. I think people in HK wont let baby try to eat by hands because it make it really mess. However, I can found my daughter is more independent and want to do everything by herself. Now, she is 13 months old and already know how to use spoon and fork to eat by herself since she was 12 months old.
Try to let your son eat by himself, I am sure he will find it so funny! (make meal time is a happy time)
ps Tiffany wont eat congee at around 8 months old, so I cook some very soft macaroni and cut it into two piece, so that she can pick it up easily.
