I think it really depends what industry and job you are in. I am from banking and finance industry, most friends lost the job cannot get the job with the same salary. It takes more than 6 months to find a job. For those 40+, it's very difficult to find a good job...
it's really difficult to settle down in Canada initially. perhaps needs to start from Chinese firm to have local experience, then you can start trying to move to mainstream.
If you are in merchandising, perhaps it's worth it to look into running your own business, maybe start from 代購。

你講得對。身不在香港其實真係唔知發生乜事。如在香港會更氣餒。我還有同我的headhunter 聯絡,市道真不是太好。要在香港找份好人工真不易,日用品跟半年前比較又貴了。其實返來一開始建議當放假上啲short course, 一邊做volunteer 或part time. 會容易啲搵工,日子也過得快啲。我是一邊take short course 一邊搵工的。有很多temporary full time 和頂產假,不防一試。那些有好多都可變長工,和方便拿local experience. 咁樣日子過得快好多
I am in Vancouver. However, I lived in Ontario a few years, you can try Seneca, Humber. You can just take 1-2 courses good enough, 3 courses coursework would be very heavy as I took 3 courses in Winter, bloody busy compared to 20 years ago. Then, you can put on your resume that you are taking courses so that easy to get a job...Those employers just concern your English level. If you are taking courses, can convince you are communicating well in English.
