I'm about time to renew the contract with my current maid. The maid asked me to prepare a "release letter" to Immigration. She showed me the e.g. of this release letter is just like a reference letter from her previous employer.
I wonder if she is cheating me to help her to prepare a nice reference letter and she want to resign???
Please kindly advise.
I did call the immigration last week and yes, they require this "release letter" in order to extend their visa.

heidikl :
A "Released letter" is normally issued to the helper to confirm that she is released, i.e. the contract is finished so that she can proceed to find another job. The employer will also send a copy of this letter to the Immigration Dept to inform them the maid has gone. Some employers simply add comments on this letter so that this can be used as a certificate of service/reference letter.
