Holiday Villa and Westin, I stayed them before. Westin is 5 star and also the room service and breakfast as well. But, the beach is not good and a bit boring in the Westin. Although it is very near to the ferry, eager square, night market then nothing is done in the hotel. It may be I don't feel relax in the Westin. Because it costs $2xxx just a room with breakfast, it is just 2 days of STAR in Sabah. It is totally not worth to stay here. But Holiday Villa is just 3-4 star with better resort feeling. Outside of the hotel, there are all restaurant with good taste. But the style of room is too bad and dark. Both I don't suggest for you. Just find another hotels.
I stayed in Holiday Villa in my last Christmas holiday. All of us enjoyed it very much. Some rooms had been newly renovated, including mine. I had passed by the other rooms and then I found out that my room is much better. One tip for you is that you can ask them for room with no carpet on floor. That's what I asked when I checked in because both I and my girl have nose allergy. It seemed that the newly renovated room had no carpet.
For the hotel, if you are not expecting very grand one, this is good enough for a family to enjoy holiday. There were enough choices for breakfast. Swimming pool was reasonably big, not too crowded. Staff were nice and friendly. The beach was OK, sand was not particularly soft but certainly not rocky. Good sunset view! The location was good with lot of choices for eating in walkable distance. There was a restaurant 'the boat' just opposite to the restaurant. The boss was really nice and can speak Cantonese. We went fishing twice during our stay and he helped us to cook our harvests, including fish soup, BBQ fishes and steamed fishes.
