我哋呢邊嘅媽咪都興儲臍帶血..
喺美國, CBR最大 cord blood registry..
但我哋用 cryo cell 因為customer service 好..
所有美國公司都做international 生意.
你哋香港做registered.. 如何介紹媽咪有乜嘢回贈??

我package 係USD $1700 (頭一年連運費, 處理同儲存), 之後每年USD$125 annual fee..
介紹一個媽咪就免一年annual fee.

US$50,000 cord blood insurance
US$10,000 for procedure (如 touch wood, 要用 cord blood, Cryo cell 會付 US $10,000美金做醫療費用)
如小孩大學時於美國就學, Cryo cell 會俾學費嘅4%
免費於2小時(生BB後)由專人帶cord blood坐飛機送去storage.. 國外會由express 接收..
支付up to USD$175 俾醫生做抽 cord blood個 procedure嘅費用

明天我去聽cryolife講座了解吓佢個package, 不過多數會join因為有朋友join咗話background幾好.
佢18yrs storage plan ttl cost hk$27,500 都幾抵, 又可做int-free installment(10mths). 冇咁肉痛.
不過leaflets沒有提及cord blood insurance, 所以要問吓, 這個是甚麽? 保障甚麽? 是否lost cordblood有得賠?
我的醫生唔收extra charges做抽 cord blood.

其實我都想知18yrs喺咪太耐? 定10yrs已經ok? 唔知cordblood仲有冇效? 如果問sales佢地一定話仲有效.

should be ok (>18 years) if there is no accident in the storage. but after discussion with friends, i would rather save the money and donate the cord blood to the bank in the Red Cross.

Saving the cord blood is for "just in case", so I think the $ needs to be spent since we have spend so much on the bb already, and will spend more for his/her future.
So overall the $ on saving cordblood is minimal.

well, i once had the question in mind that if the bb really gets sick, is the cord blood still that safe to give back to him/her? i guess the cord blood saving may be more useful to others including other family members who get other diseases while the bb is healthy. so, we have decided to donate to the cord blood bank in the red cross with the understanding that we won't be able to get the cord blood back. money is not the biggest concern but we wish the cord blood can benefit more ppl. and indeed the red cross needs our consent to check the health record of the bb in future. i guess they might not use the cord blood if the bb have problems in future.

I am not sure if the cordblood is still safe to use if the bb have some hidden sickness already once s/he is born. I will ask this ques tomorrow when I attend the seminar.
If the cordblood is safe regardless, then it is worth the while to save it, should the baby needs to use it for serious illness in the future then you don't have to panic to try to find suitable cordblood.

apart from the genetic problems, there are other technical problems concerned in autologous cord blood transfusion and the subsequent management. but seeing the ads from those storage companies propping up from time to time in this site, i guess it would be better for me to say less here and you can consult specialist doctors dealing with cord blood transfusion (like haematologists). and there is also much info online. here is one of the links from big search engine (they have not discussed about the technical issue in the link though). http://pediatrics.about.com/od/agesandstages/i/cord_blood_bank.htm

and i am also interested in how they will answer your question as there may be conflict of interest and they are just doing the storing job.

i just want to raise the other possibility of donation to the public cord blood bank. indeed, if more ppl are willing to donate to the cord blood bank, the possibility of finding matched blood is higher. i still think storing the cord blood is the right direction but decision and variation is where it should be saved.

anyway, it is good that you plan ahead.

個insurance 係 in case.. storage centre出咗問題, 每個家庭會有 USD$50,000 "陪"償.. 當然.. 我旦願佢一世都唔駛"陪"俾我呢!

儲cord blood.. 個人意見.. as 做姑娘都十一年.. 好多小朋友有1型糖尿 before 10歲.. 血癌 before 10 歲.. 但骨癌係多數十幾歲.. 冇家族遺傳.. 加上.. 而家 Cryo cell 已研發咗.. 小朋友遇上serious 嘅交通意外所導致嘅癱瘓.. cord blood 都可以 re-build 脊椎骨同神經細胞..
喺香港只係2萬幾就有18年protection.. 好抵..
我會喺呢邊 new york 為小肥bear 買21年.. as by 16歲佢哋可以考車牌... 保到21歲好啲!
而且佢哋將血桿細胞分開晒.. 所以可以救到唔同嘅問題.. 唔係只用一次.. eg. 有heart mur mur 可以醫心一次.. then, 有意外.. 剩咗嘅桿細胞就再build up 去做spinal cord 同nerve cell..
最重要係大女出世時冇整, 我生埋呢胎唔生喇.. 所以我一定買俾佢2個呢..
