I am about to confirm a YAN YAN, claimed by the agency she completed 2 contract in Taiwan. She took care 1 old lady and 2 children aged 7 and 9 something.

We have deposited HK$500 in the Agency account before Lunar New Year for reservation. Yesterday, I asked the agency to give me the reference letter/pevious employer's contact/Yan Yan's passport copy for my reference before we signed the employment contract. It is truely pissed me that the agency gave lots of execuse:-
1) "It is personal decision to give out the previous employer's contact, we can't force them"
2)"The Yan Yan found the Taiwan job via another agency, so we cannot acquire the previous employment history and docu copy"
3) "The Yan Yan may not have the passport"

Those answer is so rediculous and insulting my common sense!

I really don't know the agenct move behind and please do give me some advice on this issue.

佢地真係可以唔俾你睇的。

所以唔俾我睇ref既工人，我一律當佢無experience，亦唔會考慮請佢地。

你洗濕左個頭（俾左錢），agent梗係唔想搞咁多野啦。

The agency charge me :

Service fee: HK$1680
Insurance: HK$1280
Body Check: HK$450

The agency asked me to deposit HK$500 for hold up the YAN YAN law.

I can understand it is difficult for them to acquire Yan Yan reference letter or previous employer's contact.. but it didn't make sense to give an execuse they cannot acquire the Passport because the YAN YAN didn't have it wow!!!!

I don't know if other agency practice. But it is just piece of cake to ask the YAN YAN for any of those info ga ma! The background and history of the YAN YAN all I have just a told by the agency, no black and white doc.

I think it is a responsibility of the agency to provide accurate and reliable info to us, right?

其實哩個真係值得疚病的, 對僱主完全無保障, 代理對不實資料又唔駛負責任.

我個 CASE 就係個 AGENCY 要我俾 500 DEPOSIT 先可以 INTERVIEW 個工人(即係 HOLD), 點知我入完$佢同我講個工人俾人買斷左. 我0的 $$ 就唔退住, 死都話要幫我繼續搵工人. 話如果搵唔到工人先幫我問公司退$$.
你打去消委會問下你個 CASE 可以點處理. GOOD LUCK,

do not use this agency!! Even if your helper does not have the reference letter, she must have a copy of passport to proceed the application, otherwise how do they handin the doc to the immigration? they can fax u the visa from other country so that u know she really did work in that country.

cut the agency before more problems, like after the helper arrival, there might be other problems which the agency wont help u with or reply you with something like we cannot force her to work hard, it is up to her is she want to work or not....

If you go there on SUNDAY, many customers and helper there and make a scene (like shouting her dishonesty to their customers), they will certainly give u the HKD500 back.

This is very good idea, thank you so much simb. I will consider to take action if they do not reply me within 2 days!

I phoned 消委會，they said they can only help me to talk to the agency and ask them to give the detail info of the YAN YAN wow...if the agency refused still, take legal action but the 消委會 won't involve!!!

I lose $800

I have similar experience. My maid resigned last August, I paid $800 for getting a new maid (within the 2-years guaranteed period).

The truth is:
1) for all the maids that I choose, the agency held me 7 to 10 days to wait and see if they accept the job offer.
2) for the three maids that I choose, the agency have different 'funny' excuses saying that they do not accept the job.

I was fooled by this poor agenecy for more than 2 months just because I wanted to save the $800 that I paid. At last, I take another agency and the new maid will come this week.

My advice is that when you need to pay, for whatever reasons, let the agency remarks on the receipt that if the chosen maid cannot come, they will refund you. Without this remark, the Consumer Council can do only little help.
