Normally an electric socket can support 13A which is equal to 2860W (13A x 220V). Each electrical appliance has its own power consumption. For example, light = 60W; Computer = 400W; LCD Monitor = 100W. That means total power consumption is 560W (60+400+100) which does not exceed 2860W. That is ok. However, the power supply is also controlled by the fuse in the switchboard. If the fuse is less than 13A, the fuse will be burnt or disconnected before 2860W.
