Infants aged 2 - 6 months: three doses, each of 0.5 ml, the first dose usually given at 2 months of age and with an interval of at least 1 month between doses.
A fourth dose is recommended in the second year of life.
Previously unvaccinated older infants and children:
Infants aged 7 - 11 months: two doses, each of 0.5 ml, with an interval of at least 1 month between doses. A third dose is recommended in the second year of life.
Children aged 12 - 23 months: two doses, each of 0.5 ml, with an interval of at least 2 months between doses.
Children aged 24 months – 5years: one single dose.
For example, if the child is 4 mth old, he/she has to take injections on 4,6,8, 12-24 mths old.
If child is already 3 years old, only need one injection. But remind again that the bacteria usually causes severe infection for those newborns and children below 2 year old; it may not be cost-effective for children older than 2.
I did not recommend M. ACWY, another type of pneumoccal injection because the main target is for elderly, children with lowered immunity due to chronic diseases (like leukaemia, "white blood disease"). Therefore, it is not commonly to see such injections for normal children.
