My wife and I have 2 boys, aged almost 10 and 6. She was found to be pregnant again last week. She's in her mid 30s and I'm close to 40. I'm a professional and have a small mortgage to pay off on the house so financially, we have no problem. The only problem is: I can't retire in 10 years :(
My wife was completely in shock when she found out about the BB. Both of us didn't plan for the third one, but it's God's will for us to have the baby. Maybe God thinks we need the baby to make our family relationship complete.
We are not "monster parents" who forced our boys to learn 10 things at the same time. The older one likes playing on the piano and swimming. The younger one enjoys arts. We enrol them into different classes based on their interests.
They both go to public schools, not private schools. Financially it is affordable, but we are more worried about how the two boys will think of the new member in the family. They have already been talking about how to "deal with" the baby (which we think is completely inappropriate.)
May I ask how do you manage the relationship between your oldest daughter and the youngest son? My oldest son has listed a lot of "requirements" that must be satisfied and asked for our personal guarantees after the baby is born. My younger boy is upset and feels pessimistic about the future.
Oldest one is almost 10 but is intellectually equivalent to a 13 year old. Younger one is 6 years old. They have already been discussing about the possibility of having their toys destroyed, their books torn apart and their work books got drawn on. The younger one asked a lot of questions. We tried to answer them all, but he was pretty upset about it. He was worried that he wouldn't be loved anymore.
When the younger one was born, the older one didn't like it because I spoilt the younger one more. Now the older one doesn't want history to repeat and starts making demands.
My wife is a full-time mum at home. She looks after the boys most of the time. I work full-time but I see them at and after dinner everyday. johnnywalker is right. The school assessed our older son that he has high IQ and low EQ. He can get irritated easily. He is always competitive and wants to win every time. He does not handle failure or losses very well. However, my wife and I had a serious talk with the boys yesterday, stating the facts now and what will happen in the next 7 months. Both boys seem to be quite accepting but whether the words will sink in, we can only tell when the time comes.
To be honest, the relationship between my older son and me is not that good. We are both competitive in nature. He likes running his smart mouth to get away with things that he needs to do. That's something I don't like about him.
