Can anyone please share with me what're the reasons you sell your old car? My serena green dated 2010, I'm considering whether I should sell it and buy another one. But my concerns are:
1) I really like Serena type of MPV, the next one I probably would purchase similar MPV. But I don't quite like Honda, and I am yet to explore Toyota. If I buy a new Serena, I end up paying more just for a similar car...what's the point of selling an old for a new one? Just for the sake of enjoying new features?
2) I'm trying to figure out is the money value of selling an old car better or worse than buying a new car of similar type , in terms of annual spending? Keeping an old car requires maintenance almost every 3 years e.g. change tyre, brakes etc. While buying a new car requires paying an extra upfront fees due to inflation in the prices.
3) The Serena sales told me, keeping a car for 10 years is probably the best economic approach. Roughly 10-15K per year. If selling it within 4 years, the annual spending has to be more than 15k. The calculation including insurance, license plate, etc.

I think you should ask yourself why do u want to trade in your car
We used to get a new car every 4-5 years, just feel bored on the old one. But now if the car keep well,we will keep it up to 8 years, coz want to put more money on the kids.
我鐘意你同我講 I Love U, I Love U Too!
You are the sunshine of my life. That's why I'll always stay around. You are the apple of my eye. Forever you'll stay in my heart.
2010 car is still relatively new and depending on the car condition and how you normally drive it, it should still be good for a few more years. as to whether you should sell or keep, ask yourself if it's worth the upgrade or not and everyone's consideration factors are different. if you feel comfortable enough to justify the new purchase, then by all means go for it.
Thanks for all your sharing. What triggers me to consider purchasing a new car is purely about cost effectiveness. I have been driving it for almost 4 years, it works very well, except it needs to have certain replacements as every cars does on a regular basis every 3/4 years, e.g. tire , brakes, battery etc. So I start to think keeping an old car requires maintenance cost and wonder may be purchasing a new car is not that cost ineffective as I originally thought. I have found that some people change their cars very often, so I wonder if it's cost effective to do this that makes people do this. But now I have been calculating the cost, it seems it's not the case. Guess people change their car mostly for reasons other than cost effectiveness.
1. I have some years of driving european cars, e.g. Benz, BMW.....I really don't quite like using european car in HK., especially those modern cars that have so many electronics part. The maintenance cost is over-priced. So to me, I'm not keen on driving those fancy cars...now I'm looking for practical cars for family use. Fewer electronics part, more manual control, but has less problems and is fuel efficient.
2. Same as 我愛Corina, with kids, our money is like "burning".
I don't think upgrading a car will do much for me but cost more.....
i once heard that Euro cars do suffer from inevitable climate illness here, as climate and driving conditions are so different than on Euroads, so electronic parts going the occasional crazy may be expected, which could be comparitively costly to fix than for J cars due to repair friendliness as well as general part availability.
