if you really need to buy a present, I always suggest to buy book. Although not all kids love that but it's still better than toys. Our kids are all having too many toys. They won't treasure it. I arranged a b'day party for my son who is 6 year old few months ago. I discussed with him and he agreed to ask his friend to donate their money to an organization serving disabled children instead. Although still some friend will send him gifts, but not as many as before. I think it is more meaningful to share our happiness with others in need.
