In that moment, yes; but not too strong. Try to remind yourself she/he is still a baby. Teach, teach again. She/He will do it better next time.

I never spank (hit) my kid. And rarely do I scold him too. I think the kids would just copy you if you do so. Then, it's really not good, you are setting bad example. I'll punish him by asking him to timeout (stand against the wall) or I just don't talk w/ him for a period of time.

So far, this work very well on my son.
