I personally think that it is important to help the children develop self-awareness and self confidence. Therefore, saying "I want to" or "I like to" is fine. If the children can express their emotions and feelings, that's great.
What we need to teach them is how to handle their emotions. If they say "I like crying" or "I like screaming", then we have to teach them "crying" and "screaming" may not be the proper thing to do (depends on the situations).
The older generations are usually very controling and manipulative. Our generations is about trust and interactions. Very different teaching philosophy.
