is it possible to let her study gov't school in UK?

Dear all,
my husband and my daughter have got the British Passports under 居英權. Can i send her to Uk to study as a local student. if yes, how?, what shoud i do?
Can anyone tell me about this????

Yes, you can, but provided that you can proof you have paid 3 years tax to the British Govt and proof that you have stay there for three years.

But honestly speaking, you got to be very careful in selection Govt School.

not really, if you did pay for 3 years tax then fine.

Or else you can only go to Independent school

But I heard Education starts at age 6 ? right ?

My daugther and I are still in HK but will move to London to join her dad in autumn.
Yes I know the formal edu start at 6. But I need to know more before we really confirm our stay. My husband is working for a UK company and we plan to stay there. We have ask some school but it seem to me that they are not very sure about our status.
So, if three yrs later we still in UK, then our daugther can enjoy the edu? She will be 5.5 after three yrs.
I heard that the school fee of Indepedent school is very expensive right?

Hi

Apparently you have to check at the individual coucil to see if you can enjoy the local status. Some requires paying 3 years of taxes and 3 years of staying there before but others might have additional conditions.

children starts school from the september after their 4th birthday, not starts from 6!

if your husband is working in UK with work permit, your children can enjoy education free of charge. It's just that i'm not very sure how long your husband has to work there before enjoying these benefits. but since your kid is 2, by the time she's entering nursery/kindergarten, i think she's qualified since your husband will be working for at least a few years. After 5 years he can actually apply for UK permanent residence!
Government schools do vary. Some are bad but some are really good-- they have high standard and a lot of the graduates go on to Oxford and Cambridge.

yes you can send her to UK as a local student. Will you be living with her? or as in some cases, they just stay with guardian (eg relatives) and that's ok too.
agree with msma that you have to be very careful when selecting governement school. where about in uk will you be planning to stay?

thank you very much for your advice,
i am not sure which part of uk i will let her stay, it depands on what school i will choose, i am still looking for a proper school for her,
where are you staying in uk?
are you sure i can let her study in gov' school in uk, we all family are still in hk, we did not pay any tax in uk before!!!!

My family also have 居英權 but didn't stay in UK or pay tax 3 years. My son studied boarding states school in Year 5 commencing on Sept 2003.
What's your plan, let your daughter study in states boarding school or states day school?

Dear 2000mom,

I forgot to mention that need to stay in UK 3 years or pay tax 3 years this point. Part of it is correct because I asked UK 領事館 (but I don't know that was changed or not) , they said If you have 居英權 but the parents didn't stay in UK 3 years or pay tax 3 years before the child study in UK University then it base on that University how to judge the student is local resident or overseas student (the school fee is not the same) and they mentioned that whatever the student stay how long in UK , that period will not be count it. But some of my friends in UK said that the policy of UK Gov always change. You can better check it.
