I am still on maternity leave now, and I will go back to work at the end of April, so I need to start finding child care for my son. I prefer family care because my son is still so young.

What is your job? I am a stay at home mom with 20 months old daughter. Actually I would like to find a part time job when she go to preschool next year. However, its only take 2.5 hours for her class, so its also hard to arrange unless my MIL willing to pick her up after school.
How long have you been to Canada? Are you from HK too? I've been to Canada since 2001, so I am still very new.....and dont have too many friends in there.

I have a daughter just over 25months and I am a working mom. I send my daughter to family-run daycare everyday and my husband pick her up after work. We are also new immigrants as we landed just over a year.
I wish I can be a full time mom but it is so hard to be single income family! But having a job keep me alive and we can have more spare money.
I am so busy everyday and I may not response as fast as other moms as my work place cannot read chinese and I can only read it when I am at home.
Currently we are looking for RESP and does anyone know some good place to start?
I am a daycare teacher, and my daycare also has the preschool program which is 5 hours everyday. It is located in Richmond. If u are interested in that, let me know and I can give you more info.

So nice to hear one more mom from Vancouver. Actually, I wish I can have a part time job like working 2-3 days a week. However, I know it is very hard to get a job like that especially i dont have local experience at all.
you are right, having a job can keep you alive. Let me try my best when I back to Vancouver again. Dont know if I willing to leave my daughter for work as I always miss her.
My daughter's RESP is from Vancity but I dont know that too much as its all arrange by my husband.

My daycare is very close to Joyce station. The nanny is orginated from Guangzhou and she is very flexible on the timing to drop in and pick up. If you are working in daycare centre, how come you look for another daycare?

You are so lucky to be in HK! Toys & clothes are so expensive here and make sure bought all the baby stuff before you come back. BTW, when will you be back? How is your baby doing? Speaking of missing baby, I didn't as I know it is better for her to mix with other kids rather than stay home with mummy.
Just wonder whether you two own any properties here? We are thinking of buying a house, but it is so expensive! I wonder how can I save my salary to cover the loan for a house for over $500K!
My daycare is for those children who are from 3 to 5 years old, so my son is too young. Also, I prefer the family care because he is still so young.
I told my mother-in-law that I visited one of the family daycares today, and she seemed a little bit worried because she is not sure my baby can be sent to a good one or not. She said she will be thinking to take care of my baby. Actually, she is working full-time now, so which means she may quit her job. I was super happy about this even she may not quit the job at the end, but at least she will think about it and it shows she is so considate.
I know the house is super expensive right now. We were thinking to buy a house that is near to my in-laws (we are living together right now), but I don't think it is a good timing.
I know toys and clothes are so expensive in Canada and not worth to buy too. I didnt do any crazy shopping yet as I still have few months to go.
My daughter is here in HK with me, daddy will be back on Christmas day.
I always want to get a chance to let her play with other kids as I am the only one at home with her most of the time, so she was in "Gymboree" class when we were in Canada. Now, I also enroll her to a playgroup with same age kids every Mon/Thur. It is so important to let her play with other kids and learn from each other.
Where is your husband? I thought you went back to HK because of him. Does your husband miss baby? My husband won't like it and he never wants to be separated. I joke with him that if we divorved, he can keep the baby as I want freedom and having a baby is a burden for me.

If you have in-law here, why you have to take the baby to daycare. I don't have anyone here, so I have no choice. From what you explain the day care, do you know whether she has any experience? I choose my daycare because she has a son and 2 daughters and I can see other kids around which looks healthy to me. Is she going to have other kids to take care? My daughter went to daycare when she was 15mths and my nanny told me she will be separate by the gate if she saw other kids bugging her and sleep separate in the baby bed. You know kids, they don't know anything and may just push you because you took his/her toys. Besides, if no kids around, your baby may feel bored. If too many kids, your baby may get sick easily...It is so hard to leave your kids alone with a stranger and you really need to think thoroughly.
I am going to Victoria tomorrow and stay 2 nights over there. It is the first trip after baby born and we are very excited to go. 2 weeks later, we are going to Rockies for a 4 days tour as we never been to anywhere in BC and wish to see more. Anyone has any plan for Xmas?
Hey, how is the Xmas spirit in HK? We went to Metrotown last week....very disappointed about the decoration as well as the Xmas spirit. Even the Bay sux! I hardly feel any Xmas spirit in Vancouver and I miss HK...all the lighting and Xmas song!
My husband is in Vancouver now and he will be back to HK on Christmas day for my sister's wedding in JAN and then he will be back to Vancouver again for work.
Actually, I came from HK and my family and friends are all in HK too, we get married and then I move to Canada. My husband miss Tiffany (my daughter) a lot as he is the only one at home now.
You are right, it hard to leave baby to a stranger, I dont thing I will feel comfortable about that even she go to school later. My in-law are also in Vancouver but my MIL is not willing to take care kids as a full time job. Leave Tiffany to her for few hours is ok but not for everyday. My MIL is a out going person, so she will feel very boring if we keep her at home to take care baby.
I dont know how is the Xmas spirit in HK yet as I dont go out to TST or HK side very often but I am sure that will be very good. This is the first time for my husband to spent a Xmas holiday out of Canada and I told him that he should spent at least one Xmas in HK because of the strong Xmas spirit.
Plan for Xmas? I will have a family dinner on 25, 26. Babykingdom's Xmas party on 27. Also, will go to Beijing with my husband on 28. I think this is the most busy Xmas holiday that I never had before.

My mother-in-law is working full-time, but she is thinking to quit her job to take care of my son. it will be very great if she really does so, and i will really appreciate that.
my son keeps having the runny nose today, and i was really worried about him. i will bring him to see the doctor tomorrow, and hope he is fine.
We survive from the trip! The trip was great...but only because it is hard to travel with my daughter. She screamed in the bus while everyone is sleeping. She slept while we were walking the scenic walk and we have to shorten our trip as it is too cold to take her out. We need to buy her milk eventhough it was raining and windy outside. She was very excited about staying in the hotel as it is very diff from home...she can open the drawers and jump up and down on the bed! She looks at the mirrow and made naughty faces. But one thing very amaze me ...my daughter say hi and bye very often when she is in the bus, in restaurant and in the street. People all response to her as she is so cute!
Elly, just wonder why you don't stay in Vancouver with your husband as you are not working? I think you should not protect your daughter too much as I realised my daughter tends to learn things from strangers/others rather than me..eg. she learn to wear her shoes without me teaching her...whenever I taught her to wear shoes, she never interest and I have to fight with her all the times.
Jacobmama, it is good if your MIL can take care of your child when she is young and once she is older, then you can put her in your daycare. But I also realised my daughter discipline more in since she is in daycare...eg, she will have a nap around 1-3pm and if she is at home, she hardly follow this schedule. I hope your MIL will not spoil your child as grandparent tend to do it very often.

I miss vancouver so much. I just visited vancouver in April and stayed there for a total of 3 months!!! HaHa. The foods are really great in Vancouver, especially the bubble tea and japanese food.

it is not easy to travel with a kid. i went back to hk in sept for 3 weeks with my son and my husband. my son was only 5 months when we went back, so we were so tired. also, we needed to pack lots of stuff for him. however, we did have a wonderful trip as we met our family and friends.
