I have been moving to HK side for 1 month. The electric bill last month was HKD600+ but we used the air con for less than 10 hours. The month before when I still lived at Kowloon side the bill was below $300. A friend told me that the astonishing bill is because of two reasons:
1. Two different electricity companies. CLP Power has a better rate.
2. Dehumidifier consumes a lot of electricity, much more than air con. Since the place I live now is very humid, I have to turn on two humidifiers more than 16 hours a day.
If this is the case, I would use more air-con to dehumidify at nite rather than turn on the air-con. Any one of you have any comment on this?
Thanks Garfield for your reply. I just called The HK Electric Co and found out that the dehumidifiers I am using are consuming 1 unit of electricity every 1.5 hours. If I turned them on for 20+ hours a day, it means almost 400 units per month, that is almost HKD400. Wah, what a bill!
Actually the spokesman of HK Electric Co said their bill was only a few % higher than China Light because of their 6-level range of rating and China Light's 5-level range.
yes, depends on the model you are using.. for those energy saving - really does not cost much.. like the one I am using - bought over 10 yrs ago... does costs a lots on the electricity bill
