Hi all moms,

Hi there, I have an elder daughter (2 years) and a younger son (Aug 07 baby, now around 2 months). I am bf my son now and occasionally pump out the milk if I feel the breast full and also to prepare for the days back to work. However, I encounter pumping problem and hope u can give me some idea....

I use Medela Single Deluxe pump and I can only efficiently pump out all the milk 50% of the time. Like now (2:00am) and my son sleeps after bf on one side, I know the other side is really full and has at least 4 oz. However, after pumping for 25 mins, only 1 oz comes out. I am so frustrated with the result....

No matter what I do (think of my baby, relax, turn the pump here and there), I cannot see the let-down this time. Sometimes, I don't know what difference have I make, I can pump out the 4 ozs without difficulty.

I hope I can pump efficiently not by chance but by using the correct technique. Any comment/ idea? Thanks!

我想知道等10-15min時, 個pump係唔係照開住, 跟住d奶又會keep住出幾耐呢?

其實我已經一路pump一路按摩個breast, 也有按硬塊架, 但總之出完d前奶後, 後奶就好難出咁, 我check 過個白膠仔冇問題架....

咁番工之後又點夠bb食呢?

究竟係我唔識用個mini pump, 但係我方法錯呢?

I used Medela Mini and find it very effective. Hv you created a "vaccum" 真空吸力 ? when you pump ? Hv you checked if the white soft "shield" is broken or not ?

If the above two questions are OK, you need to press on the "hard nodes" 硬塊 of yr breasts to help squeeze out the milk. The situation could be improved.

Also, it is more efficient when you remaining milk from the just you just fed.

Sometimes, you need to be patient i.e. to continue pumping for 10-15mins even when it seems no milk coming out. You may see a second "let down" i.e. 奶柱 releasing the milk from yr breast again.

I tried Medela electronic mini pump given by a friend when I gave birth to my first child. I did not feel comfortable with it and the most important reason for not using it afterwards was it created sound which I thought was not good to my baby if I pump while feed. I switched to Avent manual pump then. For my second child, I now use two Avent manual pumps for pumping milk in office, and it proves to be more efficient than using only one. You can try to get an Avent manual pump for pumping at home while feeding, and use it with the Medela one when pumping at work. It costs less than $300, but may ease your problem.

我同culver一樣遇到pump奶問題, 但係我買左個medEla的MINI 電泵, 準備番工用, 但係依家就遇到另一個問題, 就係pump來pump去都pump唔清d奶, 每次都弄得我一身汗!) 因為初時pump到ok, 但五分鐘後就要用手協助, 有時用擠反而幾條柱噴出來, 但個pump就pump來pump去都唔係好出, 弄咗半個鐘都係得個三四安)

仲有兩星期便開工的我, 可以教我如何儲stock得黎又唔會弄致"谷奶"嗎? 因為d熱線姑娘唔主張我現在就pump定, 可能因為我之前已試過兩次谷奶問題吧!

請問有什麼方法可以pump得好d呢?唔想再買第二個pump, 想省點錢!
另外, 我唔識一邊餵一邊pump,試過效果很差, 阿b又吃得唔舒服, 若得一個pump, 點可以同時pump兩邊?

因為番左工無咁多時間慢慢用手按摩同埋同部機"磨"咁耐呢!! 我份工算係大壓力的工, 而且自己一向是個"神經質"的人, 其實都好驚自己到時會唔夠奶! 咁到時要放棄就好無奈啦!

but the problem is if you need sizes other than the standard, it is difficult, if you can, to buy in hk. i bought a pair of large size from my overseas trip.

i also find hand expression and the avent manual pump very useful and effective.

there are many causes for the situation. pumping both sides together is better. massaging and taking warm bath can help. of course, the problem can also be the equipment, the pump, the breastshield size ... maybe you can also try hand expression which is the best. avent manual pump is also good. hard to tell you the specific cause in your case.

My expereince is I pump when I feed skin-to-skin at the same time. Baby's sucking can stimulate the flow of the other side.
