Bottom line is he must know he\'s going to bed on his own not with mommys arms or boobs---put him to bed when he has he at eyes or drowsy so he won\'t get scared when he wakes without u around

U can pay him n sing lullaby to him ..if he starts choking or etc,pick him up to calm him down first but put him back to bed after 2 minutes so he knows he must go back..just make sure he\'s not feeling sick or anything.safety comes first .its tough.my son would cry long every now and then too because he\'s still getting used to it and he is teething

It takes one to two weeks to form a habit.if it doesn\'t work,you can stop for few days and try again.
I would not let him cry longer than 1.5 hours..he may not want to sleep?!
Or if he\'s not feeling comfortable ?

If you hold him to stop him crying,he will know that is the way to \"conquer\" you.it seems tough as you have an elder child to mind.maybe you could start with day time training first and let him get used to it.if he can do it in day time,you will be sure he could really do it but he is only chancing it to get cuddled/nursing at night. My son may wake once or twice during his 10-12 hours sleep now..sometimes he can get back to sleep on his own ,sometimes he had to eat ,sometimes he just wanted to suck my boobs for comfort...I would still let him eat at 3/4am if needed as I don\'t want to wake my husband or I don\'t want my son to get really awake from his own crying.my bottom line is I would check his body warmth ,nappies etc before I lift him to nurse at midnight (he should no longer require mid night feed now as he is on solid.if he didn\'t eat long in the last feed,I would let him have mid night feed).but once he done eating or if I see him falling back to sleep again,I would put him back to his bed immediately.so that he would understand,he needs to sleep on his own in own bed anyway.(if he didn\'t fully wake ,he may not even notice I have lifted him and he won\'t get scared when he wakes and find himself in his crib instead of mommy\'s bed)

For how long?

Yes the final goal is to let him sleep on his own ...without holding,feeding nor rocking. Even In day time! This training would be for hi to learn self soothing and be more independent as he grows.

Yes he cries at 9,u comfort him by patting him and talking to him without eye contact at 9:02.then you must leave him and go back to him at 9:07,comfort him for two minutes then leave again.then go back again at 9:19 if he\'s still crying...then 2 minutes comfort and then wait til 9:36 to go back and so on.

The first day,my son cried and screamed for 1 whole hour!!he was still sobbing when he first fell asleep.he may cry or make some crying like noise from waking up (it may not be real waking!).you don\'t rush to him,wait a while as he may fall back to sleep himself.sometimes I find him crying in the middle of his sleep and seem he may wake up,I would give him a little pat for like 30seconds and he would back sleeping again. Every baby is different but if you know your baby well and be persistent then you could make it.
