this is what I know, not sure if they have change the system.
they normally have 2 years contract. for the first year, employer give the salary to the agency directly and employer have to jst take care of the daily food and all for the helper.
I have heard cases that actually the helper doesn't get any money from the agency on the first year cos they have to pay back the agency .. very mean. That's why they prefer to come to hk.
As for living standard, Singapore governments flats (HDB) which are flats that most of singaporeans live in doesn't have helpers room. so a lot of helpers are jst sleeping in the kitchen with a bed, some who are nicer will give them a room, but that is not very often.
As for speaking english, yes a lot of singaporean speak at least a little malay - which is essentially the same as indonesian, so they don't have to speak very good english to be able to communicate with the employer.
and they dont have leaves at all. That part is very inhuman.
