I just can't understand if you are from a poor family, you will struggle to improve your life and will not want your kids follow the same path as yours la.

Then you will teach your kids to work hard so as to improve life la, but how come these people, they like to continue like this generations after generations????

Don't say there is benefits to be claimed. Of course the benefit is enough not to make people hungry to death la, but it won't be a lot! And you have to live in a council house (sorry no offend!), so why not working hard to improve your life? to make your life a lot better??????

But I think some English people do work hard. It seems like this so called 'grass root (in HK)' they will remain 'grass root' generations to generations'. And they will not think it is a problem!
But I do think it is a big problem to the society, they claim benefits which make us pay more tax! cos they have more time (no job to do!) they will spend their time messing around, create troubles to the neighbourhood! What a big problem to us, to the society!

Sorry to 'fat Lo So' again, the tax rate is very high here, the income we got every month had already deducted a big lump sum of tax.
Then with the smaller amount of 'net income' we got, we have to struggle to live, we have to calculate every single penny that we spend!!
But let's see where has our money gone???? Oh sorry to those people who claim income support.
Why my income has go to support their income le???

That's why we have to set a good example for our kids to learn.
choose a good area to live, people live in council house/flat create more trouble, and more noise.
work harder, to show them this is life, everybody has to work!
Never swear in front of them.........

yesterday was Irene's class's mum tea.mums gathered in a mum's home to chat. just realised there are some mums got PhD. Wow! They work hard and really care about their kids. They choose their kids's school very carefully~not just look around the school, talked to the head teacher, they also talked to the school's governor, check where are the governor come from (that's which school they worked b4, they also check the school policy. so "small heart" I feel shame of myself lei.

I can't agree more with you. I don't want to be stereotype but people who is from background to claim benefit do seem very rough.

I can share my sad story with you. Before I moved into my present house, I lived in a town which council house waiting list is top 10 in UK. Though I live in a private estate area which houses are newly built and house owners are tend to be professional people. But the house just next to me is a house always rented out. We lived there for a few years without any problem but then one day, a new family moved into the house next to us. Then nightmare came, (later we found out they rented the house from DSS - department of social security which means it is not a council house but the tenants just claim their rent back from the government - the council do this cos they don't build enough council houses! u see the waiting list for council house is so long!)
The 2 boys from this family (very young indeed, about 6 and 8) they climbed our garden fences into our garden (the fence is higher than an adults' height), they threw eggs to our front windows, threw cola to our front door, threw rubbish to our front garden. (And not to mention the extra noises they created!)
With this environment, how could we live there????
So we moved house and never consider live in the same town ever again! And the schools there are so crap anyway!
So I want to say even if you don't live in a council house area, you never know who will be your next door neighbour???!!!

I am sorry to hear that, it is very annoying. did you complain to the boys's parents? What did the parents do? In fact, the boys were little, can't imagine what they will be when they are teenager, or when they are grow up.

The boys' parents know what the boys did, they are the same type of people.
And we could not complain to the council or report to the police, either. Because once the case was filed, it is hard to sell the house! (As you know in the process of selling the house, the solicitor will check everything about the house, if the buyers know there was dispute like that, who is going to buy the house??!! So we just kept silence until the day we moved!)

I don't think there is free hours paid by the government?? Because my kids never got free hours from the nursery. It was only when they reached 3 year, they were entitled to free nursery places. I don't know if the rule changed now or different council has different policy? Maybe you ask other mums??!
