HELP!!!

To all moms:

Since yesterday afternoon, I felt pain on my left breast ... it's on the lower part of the breast ... painful when i just slight press that area ... seems that it's different to the engorement that i usually feel, which is on the upper part of the breast

since the pain started, I can only pump out 1 oz total for both sides ... and the right side also gives me some pain in similar area starting this morning ... also, i felt some headache ... what should i do? is that just engorement or something's wrong?

one thing i have to admit is that my in-laws have been visiting in the past few days and my pumping schedule was being upset ... i know i am bad ... also, i am quite stressful since they are here ... please help me ar

Have you checked if there's any hurt at the lower part of the breast? Sometimes, when you are too stressful, the milk flow will be low. Last week, I were so stressful because Amanda drew me crazy, she did not take the bottle and the feeding took so long. Spencer was sick for a week and seemed to be jealous of his sister. Plus, my family and my hubby's family got a lot of troubles. I had very bad headache (just like migrane) and I could only get 2oz of milk for each pumping (usually at least 4 for 5 minutes). So, relax and watch out if you have fever or not. If you have fever, you need to check if you have any infection of your breasts. Try to hot press and massage your breasts and see if you would feel better. Take a hot shower would help too. I sometimes leak milk after taking a hot shower. As milk cow moms, we really need to take care of ourselves, both physically and mentally.

2 good news!! Amanda has pooped yesterday night, a very big one and yellow in color. She was so relieved and so did all of us. I was so happy to change her diaper. Afterwards, she started to eat a lot yesterday night. Hopefully, she can get back to normal. The 2nd good news is that we found a bottle that Amanda like. It's called The First Year Breast Flow. There is a double nipple (one inside another one) which shaped like a breast and human nipple. The milk only comes out if she sucks on it, just like she sucks on my breast. Amanda liked it and took 1 oz in less than 5 minutes. My hubby was so happy and he said that it worths a million dollars and he hoped that I discovered this some weeks ago so that all of us could have a good time.

Now, Amanda cries when I breastfeed her because she easily chokes since milk comes so fast and so much from my breasts if they are so full. So, I try to pump and do not let my breasts to be too full when I feed her but her schedule is not stable and it's hard to predict when she wants to eat. She can now sleep up to 4 hours after being fed but she may wake up in between for burping or just wanting to be carried.

I had same experience with you when my baby was 1.5 monthes old. you can stop skin to skin your baby, just pump out the milk. After finish the pumping, use the breast milk to cover the whole nipple. This breast milk help painful nipple to recover. Then 2-3 days pass, you can feel better and skin to skin to feed the baby again.
oh, you also need to check the latch-on position. maybe that is not right. you need to put the whole nipple including the dark area into the baby's mouth. Because the baby is young, he is learning to latch on. something he changes the position. If it is not right, just pull out the nipple and try again.

For your in laws, just ignore them if you don't like what they said. or you can talk with your husband about the things your are unhappy what they have done. This help to release the stress. Take care, be fool for several days. when they leave, everything is normal again.

Congratulation! :lol::lol:Atlast, you find the right nipple and Amanda pooped. My baby has the same pooppoop problem. If he doesn’t poop for three days, I walk around like an ant inthe hot pot.

Amanda is acting differently, eat less and sleep more. Maybeshe eats too much and her stomach is too tired to digest food.
She rejected to eat, and then let stomach getsome rest. After several days she will recover by herself. So be careful,control the amount, and don’t let her eat too much.

I will suggest you to continue bf Andea because you ctch a cold and you are one of the care giver of Andrea, Andrea can get significant amount of antibiotics from your bf, that will help her to avoid catching a cold from you.
Do not take any Cipro, (ciproxacin) that will fine.

that is a problem, they don't allow frozen liquid in the cargo area, even we use乾冰, pack and wrap well.. That was at 2005 Dec, when we flied back to hk.
You need to check with your airline.

I bet that you got the milk duct obstruction. 乳腺阻塞..
you need to take some tylenol to manage your pain then only skin to skin Terrence, don't try to pump, it takes you ages.. but not even pump a oz..
Terrence's sucking is the 治本方法... normally, if you continue only skin to skin, it may take 1-2 days to clear up the milk duct.. I had clotted 2 times.. such a painful experience.. since my son Gabriel's nurse practitioner suggested me to take fish oil (pure omega 3 only) 1000mg 2 times a day, I don't have that problem again.

I was on 4 nigths straight, sorry that I did not go online..
I don't think that Amanda is having infection, not either colic.. she just have a猛長期.. as she eats less, certainly has no poopoo.. haha
now she is good again!
Lucky that the first year teat and bottle works on Amanda.. Gabriel tried but did not work.. *sigh*.. I can say.. in my house,, it is the bottle and teat showroom!

the way to let Terrence latch on you, you need to use your thumb and your other 4 fingers,to make your nipple flat, then, the other hand to hold Terrence's head, introduce his mouth to your nipple, not lean your body forward for Terrence to latch on,after that support Terrence towards to your nipple and position well.. Does he have the same problem when he sucks from the bottle.. ? if not, he just needs some guide.. ^o^, every time, he doesn't latch on, use your binki to take your nipple out from his mouth and reposition again.

I kept feeding Andrea during my course as you were busy as work, luckily I did it right

I'll be going to Japan with Andrea next week, I guess I can't pump so often during my trip, it's a 4 days trip. Will my milk flow drop significantly if I can pump like twice a day during my trip? I'm now pumping 4 times in average only... is it ok if I skin to skin Andrea before bed or I should still give her bottle only even when we are out?

For me, I will be a lazy mom... haha.. I only skin to skin Gabriel when I go out, or for a trip and top up with solid food, and juice. I don't bother to sterilise bottle and teats, plus the pump and parts.
Really depends on how much luggages you have.. if you don't have much space, better skin to skin and bring a manual pump to manage the milk flow. as how are you going to sterilize all items?? use microwave??
Night time, when I am on my trip.. (those 2 days 1 night) I will skin to skin Gabriel.. he still sleep thru the night with no problem. So.. I bet, now he is a teat/nipple convertable baby....

How many times you have travelled with Gabriel? Is he eating solid well? Andrea still can't have rice cereal/congee as a formal meal yet... I'll bring the pump with me just in case. I also want to skin to skin her when we are out during the trip, but she is not concentrated to eat if she's not sleepy, you know, 擔天望地, so need to bring formula if she's not eating well

There's some kind of tablet can sterlise the bottle, there's no microwave in Japan's hotel... by the way, how do you bath Gabriel when you are away with him?

2 short trips only. He doesn't eat rice cereal and congee at all... but he eats udon, noodles, pasta very well, so I bring the gerber graduate food with me.. all veggie puffs, fruit puffs, chuchies, finger food, teething biscuits, and juice.
oic.. sterilising tablet.. it sounds funny for me... Gabriel doesn't eat really well when he is outdoor, who cares, as he will adjust his meal time by himself, I will skin to skin him every 3 hours when I am outside with him. Also, if that meal I will feed him with solid food,I will give him some dilute juice, then after 1.5 hours, I will back up with BF skin to skin. just to make sure he will be well fed.
I wash the bath tub first. then I will take off my clothes, let Gabriel (naked) and sit on the floor, then I will adjust water, and bring him in with me, we take a nice bath together, once finish, I asked Fat bear hubby to come in and wrap up Gabriel and let Amanda to come in and then I will bath Amanda.. after I bath her, then I will release all water, then I will shower myself while Amanda play inside the tub with her water toys. then I will dry myself first, complete dress up, then I will help Amanda to dress up.

I have the same problem with Amanda at the beginning. She did not open her mouth wide enough and the latching position is not good too. The nurse taught me to squeeze the breast with the fingers so that Amanda could latch on easily. I tried so long to find the trick and try different ways. Even though the latching on position is correct, your nipples would be hurting at the beginning. Wait until the skin around the nipples become toughen then you would feel that painful. Now, sometimes, I feel it fun for Amanda to latch on But, I get another problem now. I think that my milk flow (let down) is too fast and too much (milk comes out like a spring or from a shower head) that she easily chokes, it makes her cry all the time. I have tried to pump out a little bit before feeding her and it is much better. However, it is hard to predict when she wakes up or wants to eat, particularly when we are out of home.

I had the same problem with you since Gabriel 2 months old. Engore breast with too fast+much milk flow, until Gabriel's 8 months old, my milk flow dropped.
Gabriel was choking and cried so mad.. so eventually, I have to pump my milk some times, and stocked it up, then skin to skin him when my breasts were not that engored.

Gabriel didn't want nipple when he was born, I bet, he born to be a bottle baby. He can take the bottle with teat very well.. but he will cry so mad and swing his head all over my breast, but he can't latch on it. he was struggled ..so bad... I was so heart breaking.. after, try and try, I squeezed my breast with my fingers to make my breast and nipple flat, and guide Gabriel's mouth to open, always use my finger to move his lips, try to help his lip to cover more area over my areola.

Just read your post, thanks! So busy nowaday with 2 kids... 2 hands is not enough ah!

I have two more questions here:

1. I had the experience of duct obstruction before and if I want to prevent it, do u think I can try Cod liver oil? I have a big bottle in stock!

2. I use Medela Single Deluxe pump occasionally if I feel full and also to prepare for the days back to work. However, I can pump efficiently only 50 % of the time. Like now (2:00am), Justin feeds only on one side and I pumped the other side. It should have 4 ozs as the breast is full, however, after spending 25 mins, only 1 oz come out. I did not see the let-down no matter what I did (relax, turn the pump here and there). What can I do to ensure 100% efficiency?

I am not so sure with the liver oil.. I took the Omega 3 pure fish oil because Gabriel's nurse practitioner asked me to do so, to prevent milk duct obstruction, as liver oil is good for health too and you got it at home, why don't just have a test drive??
Sometimes, it happens, as I told you that I have that experience as well.. Then I will not force myself to sit and pump with stress, I will simply just leave this matter, wait for 1-2 hours and deal with it later.. for me, normally, I will feel full in another 2 hours (if I didn't get my 1st attempt to pump successfully).
I use Medela pump in style, double pump work more effectency on me, as when I have let down, both breasts have let down at the same time.. so I won't waste a drop.
