AAmother,
I remember that the questions usually focus on your background, who you would rely on when you go to US, where you would live, how much assets (cash+property+others) you have. Not difficult questions but remember to bring all the documents (bank passbook, guarantee letter, health report, etc). Don't lie, tell the true and ask for explanation if you're not sure because US gov't is so cautious about everything after 911. I think that you have to leave within 4-6 months and remember to attend the immigration seminar (it should be held by Wells Fargo Bank in HSBC Central office), quite useful. Arrange tickets and plan moving after attending this seminar will be suggested.
You know, if you want your son to finish P1 first, you can just land first and go back but there is a risk. Bring or report at least all the money you bring to US when you land, the first time is tax-free. If you bring more money later on, it will be charged tax. You need to report the amount to custom if it exceed $9999. Good luck.
Do anyone know when I can be qualified to apply citizenship? I landed in Aug 2003, went back to HK after 2 weeks, came for good in May 2004. In Feb 2005, I married a US citizen. I have checked the information online, it requires someone to live in US for 18 months within 3 years if she marries a US citizen for at least 3 years. So, is it mean that I should apply in Feb 2008? My mom's friend told her that I can start application 6 months before, that mean next month. Or, since it's my mom who applied the visa for me, should I stick to 5 years or 3 years? Can anyone here tell?
Based on the attachment A in the above guide, it only requires 3 years in your case, doesn't matter you got the green card through your mom or your husband. And on pg 22, it says you can only apply 90 days before 3 years, not 6 months. Maybe you can try to call their customer service line and ask. Good luck!
