I possibly caught a flu - I cough and sometimes have a stuffy nose for almost 2 weeks. Since I know that some of the medication is no good for bf, I try to let my body to recover by itself. 2 days ago, I heard Amanda coughing and she started to refuse eating. Definitely, she was infected. Tuesday night, she slept for 8 hours after the last feeding. So, I went to see a chinese doctor and he gave me some herbs to make tea. Also, I brought Amanda to see her pedi and luckily her lungs' okay and the pedi said that it took a week for her to recover. However, since the herbal tea contains tangerine skin peel, I only pumped out 4 oz yesterday night. I was so scared that it may affect my milk flow because I need to take the herbal tea for 3 times.

if you know all the ingredients inside the herbal tea in English, actually, you better call LLL (the breast feeding org in USA) for sure.. if that is good for you to breast feed from now.
Did you stock up the express BF?
I do make a call to LLL each time if I need to be medicated. Just to make sure the medicine will not harm Gabriel.

JMW,
For constipation, you may modify your diet if your son is mostly breast fed. If he is a formula base (supplement with BF), then, over 3 days, you need to bring him to visit his peds for solution.
BF baby seldom suffered from constipation (unless you are constipated as well.. ) that definately deal to the food you eat.
Increase fluid intake, increase fiber increase, exercise (like carry your son and walk).. that will help. but you need to maintain it every day and it takes a few days to work.

I have told the doctor that I have to bf a 2.5 months old baby so he won't give something which is not suitable for Amanda. But, play safe, I would find the English names of the ingredients and call LLL later. I have stock of express milk in the fridge. It's enough for 4-5 days if I cannot nurse at all. By the way, how can I regain my milk supply afterwards? Would it return to normal naturally if I keep bf?

If the ingredient is not good for infant, then, you feed Amanda with express BF,and what you have to pump and dump round the clock. After you finished the herbal tea, waitfor 3 more days. until it is clear from the system.. then you can skin to skin and re-stock the express BF again

Help again, after return to HK, Alfred seems feeling not very well 肚仔. During eating for around 20 mins, he move his arms and legs very hard and his face look very painful (turns into red and cry)..... and we sometimes can hear sounds from his 肚仔and sometims 放屁 or stools..... his eating schedule hasn't changed. During night time, he seems not feeling well with his 肚仔, and so not sleeping very well, make sounds whole night, but not wake up..

And he has 2-3 stools, 6-8 wet diapers per day.... (he used to have only 1 stools per day in USA). And the stools now seems less per each time and more wet......

I continue to BF him every time first then with adding 2-10 oz formula (formula bring from USA) when he still not yet enough. I don't know whether Alfred is 水土不服 or not, but I want to find out some source to make him feel better! He is a very good boy as even I feel that he is not feeling well, he won't cry a lot, but only moveing hands and legs and making little sounds....

I've tried to BF him longer together with some pump milk, but the result is the same, so please do u konw what's up?

How old is Alfred right now?
Tell me more about his feeding schedule..
2-10oz after breast feed every time? how come the range is 8oz different? or you just have typing error?
did the content and colour changed in his bowel movement?

Sorry, I've make a mistake, Alfred eat 0.2-1oz formula every time.
I've visit gov't clinic today and nurse there told that Alfred is ok. He is now 34 days old and is 4.2kg (he was bron at 3.9kg) weight!

Nurse told me that we need to 掃風，then can reduce the unconfortable of Alfred. As after I return to HK, my mother-in-law doesn't allow us to 掃風 for Alfred, as she said that she didn't do this to his son and this will make Alfred not felling well.

Be careful with colic, which is the problem that if you don't burp Alfred. That will end up .. cranky, non-stop crying from evening to night time every night. It is a nite mare for you and Alfred. Do it yourself if your 99 doesn't do it. I would say, if you follow her way to take care of your son, you will see the result in the coming 4 weeks. That Alfred will cry like a insane baby,complete uncontrolled. And if you wait until that point and go to emergency room. you will just end up with all the medication and sleepness night.
Also, you will lose the trust from your child.
You are well educated, and you should know what kind of chinese old folk you can tolerate, as long as it doesn't harm Alfred.
That is kind of ridiculus which I have to stop you right there. Do not leave your son with that problem. He is your child, you are responsible to all your action.
Burp your infant every time after meal is a must, even breast feed. I did that when Gabriel was a infant, even thought he is 100% BF, and when I just sit him up right, he will be burped by himself, but I will not be lazy, I will still pat his back for a while, before I laid him down.
I believe that you do read all research as much as I did, when I was a 1st time mom. It doesn't mean that I am a nurse and I suppose to know everything. But I do know, burp your child very well every time is the key to prevent COLIC..
from now on.. remember this.
So, how many times/oz you feed Alfred right now?

Are you kidding? Or is your MIL kidding? Let me tell you my story... When I was a first time mom with Spencer, I knew so little and I really depend on the nurse to teach me in the hospital in the first few days. The nurses only taught me how to bf (not patient and detailed enough that I could not even know how until I insisted on having a lactation specialist to come) but missed the part of burping. I did not burp my son (my poor little one) after feeding him. One day, a nurse came over for daily checkup of him and found him not able to breath. She paded him so hard at the back for a while, then asked my hubby to call the nurse, then she rushed out and carried my boy to ICU. My hubby and me followed. She took him to a table and 2 doctors and 2 nurses worked on my son. Finally, he's okay and we thanked the nurse to save him. We believe that there's must be someone who loves us or we have done somethings good before that we did not lose our little boy. You better tell this to you MIL, especially Alfred is such a small baby that he is not able to burp himself yet. He needs your help.

My daughter is so difficult to burp out and my arm and hand are always so tired but I know that if I don't do that, she will suffer. She will cry like a mad pig and sometimes, she will vomit all the milk out.

Well, 1st time my 99 saw us burp Alfred after eating, she looked at me very angry and sould at me that I burp Alfred and will make him colic. And stop me to do this again. What I can do is just make Alfred sit up and it's ok. As I'm a new Mama and she has been mama for such a long time, so I trust her.......

Now I talked to her and told her that if we don't burp Alfred, then will make Alfred feel not confortable... As she love Alfred a lot..... ( I don't even have chance to hold him when she's home, and she will do the bottle feeding part....) so she will try to burp Alfred after evey meal..... of course, when I feed Alfred, I will at least burp Alfred for 10 mins until he felt sleep.....

I think Alfred is getting bigger and bigger and has more engery.... so he keep awake in the mid-night more.. and even we feed him with formula, he still wakeup after 1.5 to 2.5 hours, and yesterday he has 2 injections from Government Health Dept, he have nightmare the mid-light and he can't sleep well (with lots of sounds and hand movement, even the eyes are closed). and wake up with every 1.5 - 2 hours.

Alfred sometime can finish 4 oz milk (mainly in the afternoon, he can eat more), but sometimes, he can only finish 2 oz, or BF him for 25 mins, then he will felt sleep. I still continue to BF him every time, if I was too tired in the midnight, my husband will help to bottle feed Alfred! This afternoon, he can sleep for 3 hours.

Alfred was born at 6 lb 8 oz and now he is 35 days old and weight 9 lb 4 oz. I don't know whether 4 oz is enough or not but will continue to test him, but hope he won't fall sleep after 2 oz milk feeding!

Grandma always acts like that. My 99 and my mom did that b4. I even dreamed of my 99 stole my son. My pedi told me that I have overfed my daughter because she should not gained more than 2 lb in the first month (she bornt at 7lb5oz and reached 10lb in the first month). But, when he knew that I breastfed Amanda, he just told me to try extend the time between feedings because it's hard to know how much a baby eats from bf. He also told me that a baby can take up to 5oz of milk if she's 10lb but she may just need 2oz. It varies to every baby. For Alfred with his age, he may take up to 4.5oz each time. Again, it is not absolute. Amanda sometimes eat 2oz and sometimes wants 5oz at night. Alfred is still young, give him some time and you can know his needs and habits.

that is very good as your 99 would try to burp Alfred.
For a 1 month old infant will able to finish 2-4oz, that is absolutely normal. For the body weight, we base on the ratio, as long as he is in his growth chart. within a 100% also, the line is graduately increase( not falling..-- that's mean, from birth is 75%, 1 month old better to be 75% or above, not drop to 50%)..
So, every infant is different.
Like Gabriel's head cir. is only 5% or sometimes below 5%, so, that raise the peds concern, and so many examination on him since he's born.
Infant's growth ratio which below 5-10% and over 100% must be re-evaluated.
Ask your peds to use the new WHO breast feeding infant growth ratio.. Breast feeding infant has different ratio from the formular feed infant.
If you want Alfred sleeps better at night, try to wrap him up and restrict his limbs movement, so he will not get scare at night. that will prompt him sleep better.
3 hours day nap is max. for 1 day nap, try to limit it.. otherwise he will not sleep well at night.

Gabriel is on his own, but need to be at the same bedroom, he needs to hear noise...
You need to instruct your mom and the maid that BF/formula is the food for Andrea, Do not think that she can rely on solid food, she is not 1 year old yet..
2 times thru the days (for bf).. so How many times you pump??
I need to pump at least 4 times a day plus skin to skin to maintain milk flow.. to work at day is awful for me.
I wish ... my new job orientation will over sooner.
I don't search mother goose online, I only bought them at Costco, Borders, and barnes and noble.. when I find a good one.
I do orders "your baby can read" for BK moms, but I did not buy any for Amanda and Gabriel.. as we live in US, their mother tongue are English anyway..
As you will not concern if Andrea can't understand Cantonese.. because it is their nature.
I love to buy the personal CD sing along that which Amanda's name on it.. with all the songs and story.. but it is very expensive.. If I can find it, I will buy it for Gabriel as well. but I haven't seen any for 2 years.

zoey依家15 lb (出世時8lb11oz), 咁佢係咪太輕呀?

佢依家壓奶, 好辛苦先餵佢食完5安. 但我係咪應該每餐加多d奶比佢食?

Ying EE needs chemotherapy, she got cancer? Gabriel and Amanda like her very much? you know, yesterday my stupid maid almost used over 50 degree's water to clean Andrea's pat pat, luckily my mom discovered it, my heart was broken when I heard about it.

Hey, my period is still not back yet as well, but I'm glad for it, I don't miss it at all

Gabriel is such a good boy, he can sleep on his own even staying in your room, as long as Andrea is in our room, she just keeps waking up.

My mom is giving congee to Andrea twice a day and milk 2 times a day, is it ok? We were out yesterday, I don't know if this is the reason that she only took so little milk yesterday, but seems ok today. I pump 4 times a day in average, sometimes can only pump 3 times, sometimes can pump up to 5 times. I feel much more relief after Andrea turned to 6 months, especially after she turned to 7 months old... now she's almost 8 months, I don't stress myself too much on bf any more, cause I think it's already 對自己同Andrea有交代, so I allow myself to go out for longer time sometimes and won't force myself to go back home every 4 hours to pump. Still, I hope I can continue to bf until she's one. I know she loves to skin to skin, especially when she doesn't feel comfortable or got scared. I also feel so proud of myself when people said Andrea is chubby and 硬淨, cause she I nurse her to grow

So you plan to continue bf Gabriel until he weans himself? you prefer to work at night shift?

Personal CD sing along, I don't know about it wow, is it only a CD with the name on it? wow, everyone knows about your 15% service charge... is this your part time job? let me know if this is your normal charge, I don't want to take granted from you... let me check check if I can find out the mother goose's set first, need to know what I'm getting, any idea how much is it with the slide machine?

Do you let Amanda and Gabriel learn for other language like Spanish (not Chinese)? I want to let Andrea learn French, here are some French playgroups in HK, expensive of course, I count in French with her sometimes and she seems like it, but everyone says it's too early and wasting money

我哋而家都ok la.. Fat bear 做stay home dad.. Gabriel 又開始長肉..
zoey before 5-6months, 要at least 6 feeds a day.. 因為冇食solid food.. 5oz 1餐ok呢..
so, 當你add up... 4months old.. BB應食about 30oz 1日... because Zoey 嘅ratio 係75%.
如果你有懷疑... 唔安心.. or help Zoey bed time瞓好啲, add 1餐formula 係冇問題架...

about frozen milk

I have already stocked up about 50 bags of milk in the fridge and I used Lansinoh milk storage bags. However, when I took out the frozen milk and put some bags in the lower shelf of the refrigerator last week. All the bags leaked and the milk was all over the place.:-( I complained to Lansinoh and they said that it may be just an rare case and they refunded the money to me. Then yesterday, I took out 3 bags again and put each of them in a cup to avoid leaking and lossing the milk. AGAIN, ALL OF THEM LEAKED. I don't feel comfortable to give it to Spencer and Amanda because I don't know if it would have been spoiled (the cups were not covered). I have some questions: -
1) Which brand of milk storage bag you recommend? I don't want to lose any milk again.
2) When I have to use the milk after thawing? Within 24 hours? Sometimes, it takes longer than 12 hours for the frozen milk to melt.
3) My mom said that possibly the milk bag torn inside the fridge when it started to freeze. Should I throw all my stock away? I tried some before, the taste is more or less the same as compared to cold milk (not frozen in the fridge) but it smell very "so".
4) How long I can store the frozen milk? My fridge has a separate door to the refrigerator but my hubby sort of open the fridge everyday.

Yes, Ying EE was diagnosis with Breast cancer at September, she has surgery done, and from October, she started Chemotherapy.
Amanda and Gabriel just love her as they love me.
I can't believe that your maid can make that mistake, didn't her check the temp before she leaves Andrea's bottom into the water? Her heart is not here.. you need to consider to change the maid, she has been working for you for a while, that is no excuse for such a mistake.
Last time, my BF experience is bad, Amanda was taken off from BF because of my medical condition.. so this time.. I wish that I can BF Gabriel as long as he wants it.
You are right, it does really work to comfort Gabriel.. I love that and I am proud of myelf too.. hee hee.
Still. he is a BF boy.. with some sort of solid food.
He loves bread, noodles, pasta, cheese, (will start 100% fat yogurt soon)..
As I am on day orientation, I skin to skin him at 6am, and after work (4pm), then bottle feed at 7:30pm (his bed time bottle), about 4am, 9am, 12:30pm {4bottles}
I love night shift, which is quiet, no disturb by visitors.
Try to keep BF over 9months then, you can take the advantage to redce the risk of breast cancer.
The personal CD is custom made.. no name for it... All songs will include your kid's name on it.. that is fun and the way she will get used to listen and sing along when she is older. no book to come with.
I let Amanda learn Russian and Spanish, because these 2 language are the 四大語言之一.. English, Spanish, Chinese, Russian.. (In USA).. French.. hum.. there is not much ppl speak French here in US, so I don't consider that in this mean while, it is popular in Canada, but I guess that I won't send Amanda to Canada to study.. so.. I don't plan to let her learn about it.
Gabriel will learn the same way, English, then Russian, then Chinese and Spanish.. same pathway as Amanda.
The slide show, CD with player and books.. I saw it a while ago.. but you gonna wait until Andrea is about 4 years old to use it.. it is not recommend before 3 years old.. because it contains small parts.
I do order stuffs and delivery it from US to overseas, just made a start as Fat Bear is staying home, so he will do the ordering job and pack stuff and send to overseas when it's ready.
Don't worry.. I told you that I will do it for you for free.. but not for any of your friends or family.. ok?

I used all different brand.. I buy it only because it is on sale.. that's it..
I do use a lot lansinoh. and never have problem.
Do you see that there is double sealed system, when you store your milk, you need to remove (expirate all air) air from the bag prior you to zip it up, between the zip, that should be no milk in that gap.
When you stock your milk, you need to buy the storage bag container in case to make sure, your storage bag did not have direct contact to the freezer. (as the ice in freezer may eventually break down your storage bag.
I will say, you will need to keep your frozen breast milk in fridge for 12 hours to defrost.. then you will have another 24-36 hours to use. After that, even you don't use it, dispose it.
it is, it is a bit "so" then the fresh BF, but again, one of our BF mom who is a lab MD, she tested her BF and our other BF moms BF.. fresh and frozen BF have no different in nutritent contain
For regular family use double door fridge. Frozen BF can keep up to 2-3months
If you have a chest freezer (like me), the one you saw in the deli to keep icecream.. similar to that.. then you can keep your BF up to 6 months.
