I took a day off today.. just to try the transportation.
It takes 20 min to walk from home to bus stop. 1hour 15 min from express bus stop to transit stop to entance of school.
We left home at 6:40am, by school .. it was 8:15am. too late.
So, this friday (I requested off again), we will leave home 20 min to half hour earlier.
It is impossible for her to eat breakfast at home, (too early), so we may have to let her to eat at school.

We glad that they offer after school program for Amanda, a training school from Manhattan offers special program for gifted child everyday. to learn music and art. that will be about $3000 per year.. from 3:15pm to 5:45pm, and also will include snack and homework instruction. it worths, as I can go back pick up Amanda after work.

Now we try to look for car pool if possible. if not, Ying EE will take care of Amanda to school.

Gabriel will attend smile r us as planned, problem is.. he is even worse than Amanda.. as Amanda will let Ms Anjula to carry her, but Gabriel doesn't let Ms Anjula to touch him.. Sigh, he is going to cry for a FEW MONTHS again-- I bet

Has anyone tried to order from 1800diapers? I've made order there before. Saw that we can mail in coupons to get the discount. Has anyone tried to mail in the coupons there? I wanna know if they'll really process the coupons and put the discount onto our account.

u might want to try posting on craigslist or silive to see if anyone from staten island is going to the same school. if u could get car pool, amanda could sleep or eat breakfast in the car, save $3000 for after school - why so expensive anyway? and ying ee could stay with gabriel + amanda wont be so tired. winter might be too cold to walk to the bus stop and wait for the bus in the cold is no fun la :(

we wish that we can find the carpool, on Tuesday, the first day of school, we will talk to PTA, and see if any parents send their child from staten island as well, at least, I can give Amanda a big bottle and she can sleep a lil bit longer.
she is really good to wake up early, she will not have complain with that, but she will get tired at about 10-11am.. that is really bad.
Eric works at Red bank, NJ which is 1 hours driving from staten island, and he works at 7:30am, he will not help at all. Gabriel will go to school at 8am every morning, the way to make everything work, the only way is I send Gabriel to school then I go to work, Ying EE sends Amanda to school, if I send Amanda to school, we have to leave home even earlier, because 2 persons can not use HOV lane. we will stuck in traffic.
Amanda finished at 3:20pm, I finished work at least 4 pm, by the time I get to Manhattan, it will be after 5pm due to traffic jam.
I asked Eric to change his job, it doesn't work for me, Ying EE and Amanda. as his salary is not high, long commute, waste the gas. it doesn't worth at all. I even ask him to quit his job, as his salary doesn't cover Amanda's, Gabriel's and Ying EE's expense. If he wants to go out and work, he needs to find a job which will able to send either Amanda or Gabriel to school.
We did think about to move, but can't find a place we can afford. we don't want to rent a house(too expensive). If Gabriel will also study in Manhattan when he is a bit older (which we don't need backyard at all), definitely, we will just rent an apartment in Manhattan, and sell our house in staten island.
I am so afraid, I don't know how to manage right now, this friday, I will go again.. with Amanda, Gabriel and Ying EE to NEST+M.. Gabriel already caught a cold in the street, as we waited for X1 at Manhattan on our way back home, we stood in the street for 35 min to wait for the bus. too cold in the morning.

i thought about another suggestion for u and don't know if it'll work for u.
u can try to hire another nanny/housekeeper who can drive (of course with good driving record and experience) to take Amanda to school.
i've been thinking about u ...
if i were u, it's almost impossible for us to do that, coz all of us are not morning people. i also have the same worry about commuting to school next week. school starts at 8:15. i also tried to drive to school in the carpool lane couple weeks ago. it took only 20 minutes as the traffic was not bad at all. however, i was told that the traffic's gonna be bad when all the kids are back to school. so i expect probably 30 to 40 mins each way (might be even worse if accident happens on the freeway). hopefully it won't take more than 30 mins each way la. becoz of avoiding the traffic, i cancel my plan of letting him stay at school til 6pm and now i just let him stay til 3:30pm. so, i have to postpone my plan of returning to workforce again.
frankly now I'm a bit panic and regret to send him to school which is 16 miles away from home, but we'd already paid for about $3000 non-refundable tuition deposit.
couple weeks ago when we woke up our son at 7ish in the morning to try driving to school, he's so tired that he felt asleep between 10:30 and 11:00 in the car, becoz he usually goes to bed late.

btw, i just read a chinese book about teaching kids which my husband found in the library, there's a chapter mentioned about commuting too long to school might not be good to a young kid. it's a letter written by a elementary school principal to a parent whose kid commute to school from xx to xx (forgot the places) in HK. i can scan and email it to you if u're interested.

try calling up NEST +M and ask if they have car pool from staten island, office should be open by now. if there is no car pool, remember plan B st joseph hill. call them and ask if amanda could still get a spot just in case NEST+M won't work. amanda, gabriel, ying ee, u and eric will all have a more relax schedule and could spend more time together without getting too much stress. and u wont have to argue with eric about this whole thing, u know it's not worth it + dont even mention about eric not making enough $$, u know all men has "big man ego" so give him so "face" la.

please email me that reading material, let me forward the message to him.
To hire another nanny will not be possible (too expensive for us). For Amanda to go to NEST+M for afterschool and carpool, it costs at least $700 per month, Gabriel costs about $700 per month, and also Ying EE $1500.. that is even more than fat bear's monthly salary..
I know that is not good for Amanda to wake up so early, just because of the commute. We had commitment if Study in NEST+M is too much for Amanda, we will send her back to PS46.. let her relax for the rest of the year, and apply PS 54 /50 (which they have gifted program for Grade 1) for next year.

Would you consider to move to Queens or Brooklyn? The commute to the city is not as bad as SI. Since Amanda is a gifted child, the chance for her to study in Stuyesant is very high too. Moving closer to the city is one of the solutions too.

Men always have their "system" of thoughts which we will never understand. Just like my big guy, I needed to convince him for 9 months (no kidding, 9 whole months) that we need to look for preschool for Spencer but he kept saying that he's not ready. I told him that we can wait until he's ready to actually send him to the school but at least we have to start searching and visiting. Then, he told me that he needed to make some researches.

Finally, I made all the appointments for visits and just went on my own for a few of them.

Anyway, I think that moving maybe a better choice. Walking 20 minutes to the bus stop is definitely too hard for a little kid, especially during winter time. At the beginning, I thought that I could just hold Spencer's hand and walked him to the daycare which is 7 blocks away. After several days, I totally gave up - he will ask me to hold him after walking not even 1 whole block. With all the stuff I need to carry (his stuff on Monday and my purse plus lunch box and a little ice-pack for storage of milk for Amanda), I rather put him to a stroller, stuck all the things in the basket and let him eat and drink in the stroller. It at least saves time and efforts. Hope all the things will go right at your end soon.
