We have the biggest group in Elmhurst, not in brooklyn.
more than 70% of BK mom live in Queens, so you will have buddies.
we live in staten island, Amanda just turn 5, Gabriel is 20months old.

Once we got the letter from dept of edu, that Amanda is a gifted and have to study in Manhattan, we did the first thing is.. search the house, and we gave up, because it is very expensive, and also, the price of house is dropping. we still have home equiry, so we will not able to buy a house in Queens.

We tired today, because of traffic jam, even we left home earlier, still the same time when we get to school.. too bad..

I'm doing well. How about yourself? Lately, I don't spend much time here @ BK beacuse of several reasons la. I was in house hunting for couple months and I finally get it under contracted. Spending time to look for a house is a pain of the neck, I had to see all the houses after worked every week. Also, taking care of both Corey and Colin is exhausted... Last but not least, my chinese writing pad is not working. I move back to my parents house after I sold my shell 5 months ago. Most of my stuffs are still boxed up in the garage and basement. Therefore, I don't get motivated to write in the forum. I like to write chinese in a chinese forum ma

.
Corey is 39 months old la. I haven't updated the chart yet. Thanks for reminding me. lol. Colin is a big baby. He is about 20 lbs in weight and 29" in height. Although he looks kind of big, but he doesn't eat much. I wonder why:)

嘩，你真係好忙喎。而家咪好囉，起碼就嚟有新屋住，我同老公仲搵緊，不過我地都唔係好積極，都係睇下internet 同agent referral，都未有話周圍睇屋，我隻C6仲成日話都唔知好唔好真係買屋，因為佢年紀唔細，佢果份係工會工，我份人工又好少，好似要供間好D嘅都好難，除非唔喺SF啦，但咁又有大堆問題啦～～babysit for Amanda, daycare for Spencer, my job, commute time....不過我隻佬出名奄尖，我估都要一輪佢先真係會決定。

Amanda 比起Colin就真係好細粒，星期一去一歲檢查，佢先至得18磅15安士，27吋長，而家佢成日掛住玩，食奶都係最多3－4安一餐，粥仔好耐唔耐先會可以食晒大半碗，通常係見倒哥哥食佢先話食多D，但佢會問我囉菜莖食，又鍾意用手指執嘢食，咁我就將D蘿蔔呀、肉呀、瓜呀整粒俾佢自己食，佢好似唔多鍾意食飯，咁麵同pasta,oatmeal,macaroni又食喎，生果係幾乎咩都爭住食，所以而家最煩係每日整咩俾佢食。佢個pedi doctor 叫我開始俾全脂奶佢食，希望佢可以增磅，我C6又話我堅持餵人奶搞到囡囡鬼咁痴身，叫我好諗下幾時停餵，咁我一早諗住到18個月，希望我個女生性D，食多D肥D，咁我真係可以餵到佢歲半啦，我都想佢身體好D，不過我都有D懷疑係咪我D奶唔夠營養呢？

aiya. the one on targee naw. William G. Wilcox School. my niece is gifted too and she has two other siblings who r in PS 48 so her mom talked to the principal and finally they have this program starting this sept.

CAn you tell me what kind of "gifted program" you guys are talking about? How old does it have to be? How are they being tested as "gifted"? My oldest one is 3, I really wanna start something for her earlier!

i meant "replacing" your current nanny with one who can drive, so that she can help you more in the commuting problem.
however, if it takes more than 30 mins one way if driving (without much traffic), i think it might be still kinda too far.
i'd been to the parent orientation at my son's school. we were told that we're supposed to pick up the kid from school within 30 mins if s/he is sick.
there's also another school which i like the most; however, it could take 35 mins to 1 hr driving each way. so, i just gave up the idea of sending him to that school.

the "official" IQ test (adopted worldwide) is WPPSI-III given by a PsyD for the kids between 2.5 and 7 yrs old. the earliest age i heard they took the test was 4 when they took the test for kindergarten entry. generally, for IQ score of 130+ is identified as "gifted". for the smart kids, they could get 120+ but still not qualified as so-called "gifted". however, if the kid is billingual (still an english learner), the test might be not that accurate. also, i heard that it'll be more accurate if u take the test at the age of 7+.
i think yr kid is still young so probably u don't need to worry about it at this time.

i heard that in CA, the gifted programs (usually start at 3rd or 4th grade) offered at the public schools don't require the kids to take the real IQ test but other kinds of tests and teacher recommendation are needed.

喺紐約州, 有2自考試, 1個係state wide from dept of edu/ DOE-- 叫OLSAT 係資優兒童羅輯思維+表達能力測試
Otis-lennon school ability test(OLSAT) + Bracken school readiness assessment (BSRA) --俾住NY state 足4歲以上到Grade 3小朋友考嘅, 11-12月入紙, 1-2月考試. Amanda係有BK媽咪叫佢去考, then, 到我哋帶佢去catholic school做K interview時, 老師建議我哋帶佢去考囉
gifted school 有2種, zone school 有gifted class (for OLSAT90-97%), or Manhattan 有3間, 直情係 gifted school (for OLSAT97%-99%)-- government owned.
第2個係hunter college. 一定要住Manhattan, 入學之前嘅11月要入紙, 入學個年嘅2-3月做psychology exam. 要自己俾錢, 好似300幾, 考到就入hunter由K讀起, hunter 就年年review, 唔係"真" gift 就會請佢退學.
你可上nyc 教育署, search gifted, 有表可以download呢

this current nanny we hired, since I was pregnant.
We will not fire her. she has breast cancer, she will not able to find another job to support her family here.
She will send Amanda to school, she tried her best either.
I got the email and had forward to fat bear hubby.
the schoo Amanda will attend, kids from upstate as well with 2-3 hours on transportation one way.. really don't knoe how they can make it.

My hubby just gave some whole milk to Amanda today. He used a cup to feed her and she seemed enjoying it. Since my hubby take 3 weeks off to take care of Amanda when my mom's back to HK for vacation, we would start giving her whole milk + breastmilk and see if it would help her gaining some more weight.

from experience -- Gabriel.
it works.. since intriducing whole milk, Gabriel gains weight pretty well.
according to the BF growth chart, he is weight 75% height 75%, (for regular weight is only 25-50, height close to 75%). he is doing very well with whole milk, but he is allergy to it.. so we have time frame to give him cow milk.

Should I run a blood test for Amanda to see if she's allergic to cow's milk first? She's eczema and I don't want to take a risk to worsen the case. Anyway, my hubby has started to give both bm and wm to her today.

Spencer's eczema also gets worse this weekend and we suspect that he may be allergic to oyster sauce, chicken or egg because my hubby fed him these yesterday night (fried rice with these stuff). Possibly, we will take him to see the doctor and request for a blood test to check. My father-in-law is allergic to seafood particularly osyter and my hubby believe that Spencer may have the same thing (my hubby does not like seafood but he still has eczema).
