vivi_ma,
You will be given a glucose tolerance test later, around 6-7 months. Usually, the dr. will tell you to go to the hospital in the morning and you must have an empty stomach, not even milk or juice. You will be given a bottle of glucose drink (50ml) and after 1 hour, you need to have blood draw. Within 1 week, the dr. should receive the result and usually, the dr. will inform you if you have problem. If the blood sugar reading falls in 70-140, you should be fine. If it is over 140, you may need to have another intensive test, 4 blood draws in 3 hours, no eating before or within these hours (very poor and I had to take this in last pregnancy because the dr. had not told me that I need to have an empty stomach and I ate a peanut butter jelly sandwich before the test!!!!
). But, if your blood sugar reading is too high, says close to 200 or over, you don't need that intensive test, you may need to go to see the dietitian directly and start "pricking your fingers" everyday. If diet and monitoring of blood sugar do not help to control the blood sugar steadily, you will be given medication (injection of insulin). My cousin need to monitor blood sugar in her 1st pregnancy and is required to inject insulin in her 2nd pregnancy. So, it is good to start a healthy diet. Gaining average 1-3 lbs in each month should be fine (but you would gain more in the later stage, so it's good to leave some "quota" for later trimester
). Take care ar.
