eggegg Mon. 考 eng, d format was different from elainebell's. eggegg said the native eng. teacher asked 4 students to stay in the classroom, each sat at his/her own table. teacher showed the question paper, questions and answers in oral, one-to-one, no need to write anything.

finally, 脫苦海 and I can sleep well. Revision on Chin and Eng had cost me a lot of efforts, because eggegg never practises writing except homework. Numbers, general studies and mental depend on 臨場, which saves me a lot of efforts.

I have just finished planning the summer holidays for eggegg. What about all of you?

My son told me about the exam format on his first day was test by his Chinese teacher. In the two weeks time, the native English teacher will one-to-one testing the students just liked last time. My son may be next turn.

My son is opposite to your eggegg in their writing. He requested to do a dictation with me all the time and liked to practises too.

In this summer holiday, my expectation is he can know how to swim!

I see. The schedule for the 2 campus are different. Eggegg's written test by the CHin teacher was held on Tue.

I hate swimming, and so I will not bring eggegg to swim. My sole purpose is get her out of my sight. I have enough of her during the SARS suspension.

請問妳們已經為今年九月的小一自行分配學位做準備了嗎? 應該要準備什麼資料呢? 以及需多少分數才有把握?

depends on which type of school. 我只得15分,無chance去名津校,好官校都要抽.Maybe唔join this round (not compulsory), and wait for central allocation.

My situation is similar as yours. Is there any advantage on the 2nd round ( central allocation ) if we give up the 1st round application?

No advantage. No matter you join the first round or no, all treat the same--lucky draw and residence net.

But if you join the first round and get a place, you must accept and cannot refuse. If you refuse, you cannot join the central allocation. The reason is that the ED has already given you the place, fullfilling your basic needs, and so it is not fair for you to choose another one and ask for another ED allocation.

even you give up the first round application, still need to fill and submit the form (in Sept) with residence proof to the relvant ED office, to let ED know you are going to join the central allocation and know where you live so as to mail you the application form in early MArch.

Please advise what type of documents should I prepared. I need to send these to my dad in HK. Can any mom advise and post it here when the application form is distributed? I have to tell my dad to go to ED to get the form and fill it for me. Thanks a lot.

eggeggma, are you sure we need to show the residence proof to the ED office when we enclose with the round 1 application form in Sept. Do you know what type of the residence proof document they need? (Water Chargees Bill, Towngas Bill, Tel Bill, rating, rent contract)全部or任可一種?

P.S. Did you attend last Sunday primary parents talk that is running by NICE?

15 points: do not do harm to try.

residence proof (egs, quoted by elainebell, and need only one together with the birth certficate): yes during the first round. I see it from Educ Dept website. If you join the poinst system, you submit to the target school, if not, submit to the relevant local ED office. If you move house after the Sept. round, you have to submit another proof directly to ED before it sends you the central allocation form in MArch.

elainebell: yes I attended that meeting, and I tend to guess you are the one sitting next to me asking when is the latest date to move house. I think that lady talking about the admission system is not that professional. :-(

據我所知在9月自行分配學位時,是可跨區的,亦即是根據分數高低來派位, 我若選擇喇沙,我兒子有20分(因我先生是校友), 但不知20分的成功率如何? 但若保險些, 選住家附近(則只有15分), 我現住32校網,除大角嘴天主教小學外,好像其他學校都蠻老舊的,所以不知如何選擇?

on La Salle: depends on how many competitors, esp. those having 25 marks (old boy + religion). As far as I know 20 marks still subject to lucky draw because not enough places (some say the possibility for famous schools is 30-50% for 20 points).

每所學校只有20%學額會配給自行分配學位的學生, 所以若選擇大熱門的學校, 且若分數不夠高, 真的是要靠運氣,Eggeggma 不曉得你是否知道在大熱門的學校中, 有25分以上的學生約佔多少百分比? (這樣至少可計算一下中獎率. :-P :-P :-P )

sorry, I really don't know. I guess it is different every year for different schools, different regions and different attitudes of the parents, but one thing is sure--getting more competitive, e.g., more people will get baptised in order to get that 5 religious points. If these people are old boys and girls, they are sure to have 25 points. If these good schools have a long history, i.e., more old students, then it is possible that all 25 points still have to be subject to lucky draw.

Some famous schools like the Yau Ma Tei Catholic School has already announced that if you have only 15 points, don't bother to try. I know a few who have 15 points fail the Kowloon Tong government School and a PLK school in Shatin, although religion does not count. And I also know some one who has 15 points can get a place in a quite good religious school in Shatin. So hard to generalize. No one knows the exact figure until the schools collect all application form.

Moreover, 20% is not very much, e.g., 3 P.1 classes (35@) can only allow 21 places, 5 P.1 Classes can provide 35 places. Note old girls and old boys come from different years, let's say 100 students for each form (p.1-p.6), and only 5% of them apply their old schools, then altogether there are at least 30 applicants (5 X 6 forms) who have 20 points, surely overdemand.

I have once decided to send my girl back to my school, i.e., 20 points, but last year result was that 20 points still did not get a place. I think the figure 30-50% which I read somewhere else is now outdated, and the figure should be lower.

Well, just personal thinking and theoretical argument, maybe someone can help.

sorry, a wrong guess. The SC mum next to me also has a boy, asked about the residence proof and St. JOhannes, and so I think it may be you.

Well, you have not missed many thing, as the speaker is not that professional (NICE). Maybe we should wait for the SC one when K3 begins. On the other hand, NICE had a talk on introducing private and DSS schools for their students' parents (21 and 23 June), which gave me some ideas about 1st and 2nd lines private and DSS. I did not attend the talk on CPS, which is likely to be a boring promotion and NICE has no special introduction on this one.
