How do I know the performance of different types of tyres? e.g. Goodyear Efficientgrip, how to tell it's 靜、舒服?

thanks

I got different opinions from different shops. A shop suggested me replacing tyres with 205/55/16 which they believed are fine. Another shop said they don't recommend this 205/55/16 because it's not as stiff, that is it's a little bit lower than 195/60/16....so he suggested either replacing with original bridgestone B250 which are also very expensive 1300 each, or suggested goodyear 195/60/16,..he doesn't recommend Michellin, which are meant to be for european car.

So seems goodyear 195/60/16 are good. Anybody used this for Serena or for your japan car? What's your comments?

Thanks.

(pls refer by brand+model name, NOT just the brand or we cant help)
tyrepac. com. hk
below are popular selection per 205/55/16:
michelin brand
pilot sport 3, 91W $810
Premacy 3, 91V $800

BridgeStone brand
Turanza ER300, 91V $710

Goodyear Brand
Efficient Grip performance, 91V $710

Roadstone Brand (korea)
Nefra AUS, 94W $625

FTF, 205/55/16 and 195/60/16 tire circumference is the same, aka interchangeable. u can swap the 2 sizes without thinking. on plus side 205 has 10mm wider tread so ideally u get better grip.

195 is not that popular on aftermarket as they are batch loaded onto new cars, when sizes are not pop prepare to pay premium price.

Having new pair 205s on front axle, old 195 on rear is fine. It will not affect ABS function on normal driving condition. ( given nature of minivan is not to be driven hard anyway) Owner's manual suggest tires to be changed per axle, and does not oppose as long as the pair is identical.

Next question is how much treadwear on the remaining 195s? Do u plan to use for couple yrs? by then u can phase out the 195s and do a rotation, put the old 205s on rear and new 205s on front.

Not the pricey tire always the better.
One attribute contradicts another, such as
Performance vs Fuel Economy and Treadwear
Fuel Economy vs Noise and Grip or wet surface performance. You may need research from online report.

HK road condition, speed limited is just 110km.
and speed rating on any tires on market is not shy of 'S', in alphabetical order the higher rating the higher speed comes with softer tire compound but also mean lower treadwear and wear out faster.

Next is loading, mark 91 translate to 615KG. take your car 1600kg, loaded with 6 (70KG) adults then total load will be 2020+KG, if ur car has 60/40 weight distribution then front axle bears 1200KG, your front axle loading is 1230KG was just enough to take this load.
Then your minivan should use anything higher than 91 load rating tires.

You can search from online reviews by brand+model and suit yourself.

U can also educate youself the above info on major namebrand tire website. Hope this helps.

vertioDaddy,
Thanks for your detail reply. I'm very unfamiliar with tyres, car stuff etc., I'm only a C9, neither my hubby know these stuff. I've already spent some time to look around, to make sure, at least I won't get anything unsuitable or extremely expensive than it should be. But I will take some time to study. You know, as C9, always want to get something that's of reasonable quality while paying the least for. My criteria for tyres would be fuel efficiency + durable. I'm not looking for performance, and not terribly sensitive to noise. Most important is durable and economy, and good enough for family use. That's it. So I'm totally not interested in original Bridgestone B250, which is far expensive.

Thanks for letting me know about this online tyre shop tyrepac.com.hk/ , their tyres prices are very competitive. Would you mind to share your view, which model is durable, Michellin or Bridgestone?

Thanks

My saluation to smart consumer like you who do thorough research and plan before making purchase.

Given the fact you stated the criteria: fuel economy, durability, low noise.

the below suits you:
Good year -
Efficient Grip performance 91V

New tire technogy evolves and recent years major brand developed tires with low rolling resistance to aim for high fuel efficiency (was done by blending rubber with silica compound), and this is the latest technology available in market.

Other brands have similar technology under different model, but due to importer restriction and small market scale only GY's Efficient Grip and Assurance FuelMax made it to HK.

At last always get third opinion from online user reviews.

Be reminded that there're 2 models from Goodyear with similar naming: "EfficientGrip" and "EfficientGrip Performance". Take the "erformance" model as it's the latest model of this series with better tech. Good choice to be a replacement without desire for better performance
Michelle Pilot Sport 3 (PS3) is also good, with better grip and satisfactory noise control. Good for someone looking for a speedy drive some time.

I'm using EfficientGrip Performance at the front and EfficientGrip at the back on my Mazda 5 (previously Pilot Sport 3 on my old Toyota). Both perform well, just the difference of grip (PS3) and fuel & conformtability (EfficientGrip Performance)

tyre.com.hk don't have Goodyear in stock. But only Michellin Primacy 3 or Bridgestone Turanza ER300 Ecopia. I'm rather interested in goodyear as I heard good comments about it.

Let me try to ask few other shops to check on stocks. But tyre.com.hk definitely offer competitive prices.

Any comments about Primacy 3 and Bridgestone Turanza ER300 Ecopia?

thanks for your helpful info.

besides GY efficient grip performance
Bridgestone Ecopia EP200
Michelin energy XM1

these silica blend design to lower rolling resistance and max fuel economy. I consider they are head- to-head on comparison providing similar performance

vertioDaddy:

I'm just an ordinary full time mom who aims at finding good for money deals. With your professional input, they save me from searching, you cut short my way to good tyres...

I'm actually considering the models that tyres.com.hk recommend to me: Turanza ER300 Ecopia cost HKD 710+150 each tyre. Because the price really attractive....compare to Goodyear. I found in tyres review website, the average rating is fairly close to GR90, and they save more money for me!!!

I haven't checked out the prices for Ecopia EP200, but I guess it must be very close to Goodyear EG Performance as it's relatively new and claim to be fuel saving.... things that save fuel / energy, usually cost more!!! Will check it out tomorrow.

Last but not least, in your opinion, does "the country that made the tyres" make significant difference in durability and safety?

thanks.
