好彩你提醒，我一去到要盡快攪左小朋友d入學手續先。想問下你家姐個仔仔係幾多歲開始係果邊讀書架？舊年我對仔女係Toronto讀左半年小學，我仔仔因為比較大個，所以入學前要去School Board of Education做個assessment來決定佢可以讀grade幾，你知唔知Vancouver有冇呢d野呢？如果有，我一去到就要同佢地排期做test先。

我仔仔今年十歲囡囡七歲。係呀，佢地過去讀左半年，所以我仔仔返到香港焗住要讀國際學校，因為佢比較大，d功課已經唔係咁易，由其係數學，同香港好唔同，我地唔想佢第日去到加拿大又要追一輪。我囡囡呢，雖然佢今年只係一年班，但可能佢試過讀加拿大既學校，所以佢都唔係好鐘意香港既傳統學校，自從下學期開始，佢日日喊住話要退學，我話七月先退學佢都話唔得，我睇見佢都辛苦。希望去到加拿大佢會開心d。

至於多倫多，我相信都係e幾年先開始要去做assessment，唔知溫哥華駛唔駛。

Dear all,

I moved back from Vancouver not too long ago and hope the following info can help you, it's only my own opinion of course:

MAPLE RIDGE is very very far away from central Vancouver, I woud not recommend it at all.

Forget SURREY, too many Indians, bad infrastructure and it's not a safe place.

RICHMOND is full of Chinese(HK), the Chinese restaurant are great and it's very convenient(location wise) especially grocery shopping but I won't recommend you to live there because
1)the housining price is realtively expensive
2)too many Chinese, too many gossips
3)your kids can't learn English properly

COQUITLAM is more quiet and yet not too far away, the housing price is more affordable but I didn't choose to live there too.

BURNABY is my choice, it's a balance between convenience and not too Chinese community, the housing price vary a lot, you can choose apartment or house. But you have to choose your location carefully, some area of Burnaby is not too safe(just like VANCOUVER EAST), but I feel a lot safer than Richmond.

Before you land, the most important thing is to prepare your property list to avoid possible tax exposure when you re-entry:

you should list out all your valuables such as jewellry and watches (best with pictures and serial number) so that they would key in their computer. If you bring in some valuables which are not on your list next time when you entry, they may charge taxes on you.

Also when you landed, you have to report your assets amount(i.e. how much money you would bring into Canada).

After you landed, you should go and get your social security, medical care card, open a bank account etc etc.

I landed only for 1 week so I stayed in a hotel. When I actually moved there, my friend rented a one bedroom apartment from an old lady for my family. You can find it from the newspaper, some old people like to rent out their apartment for short stay, they would moved to their friend's flat during that time so they can earn some extra cash and use it on vacations.

During that month, we rented a house, bought a car and settle down.

多謝你的資料，想請問你租old lady個間屋大約幾多錢一個月？我係網上見到好多租盤都會話North Burnaby或者South Burnaby，咁north定south好d呢？邊一邊會無咁雜同埋比較多西人？唔該晒！

the place I rented for 1 mth was in Vancouver west, (a very expensive area) it costed me C$1,000 a month. But it was nice neighbourhood and very convenient.

Generally speaking, North Burnaby is better than South Burnaby, also safer. There are many Chinese in Burnaby, but there are also many Chinese everywhere in Vancouver. Just that it's a mixed community, wouldn't like Surrey(mainly Indian) and Richmond(mainly Chinese) that are too dominant with one race.

If you want to have a more 'western' people community but yet not too far away from Central Vancouver, Vancouver west(expensive though) and North Vancouver are other options. The schools of both places are good too.

the place I rented was only a 1 bedroom apartment(with kitchen and bathroom of course), all inclusive, the old lady let us use all her electrical equipment such as washing machine, dryer, TV etc etc....also the phone too.

Yes, there is no skytrain to Vancouver West and North Vancouver, Vancouver west is very near to Downdown though where they have skytrain.
But if you really want to live in Canada, you have to drive, it's a lot easier to drive in Vancouver than in HK.

I think the norm of renting a house(town house) in Burnaby is about C$1,200 to C$1,500. Not including utilities. Of course it also depends on the location and condition of the house. The house I rented in Burnaby was more expensive because it was very new, good location, good view, it costed me near C$2,000 a month. The housing price is still rising when I left Vancouver, to rent a good house with reasonable rent is difficult. Do plan carefully whether you want to buy or rent.

I don't mind answering questions, just hope that it may help you in some ways.

我只係諗住買電飯煲咋，因為用開樂聲牌，我諗住個邊買lee d日本電器都係無咁抵，其他野都係諗住係個邊買算lu。不過個總代理已經無再賣樂聲牌110V既電飯煲喇，而家只係可以係電器舖買貨尾咋。

我七月只係去三個禮拜，都唔知可以搵到幾多update 資料

。不過我都諗住會週維去睇下唔同既city，睇下邊區適合我地多d。

如果1千元加幣租1間one bedroom apartment 都幾貴喎，如果係Burnaby，我見到大約700 - 800元左右都有，不過最大問題係我地初初去到未必咁快買車，因為聽講insurance對新牌仔係好貴，唔知如果等一年先買車會唔會好d呢？所以我地諗住初初住得比較方便d先。咁請問你知唔知Metrotown Mall (唔知係咪咁叫)附近既環境好唔好呢？個度屬於north定south Burnaby呢？

唔好意思，可唔可以問下你有冇小朋友呢？你住Burnaby時佢地d同學仔係唐人多定係鬼仔多呢？

The car insurance will not lower because you stay in Canada longer, it's the driving experience that counts. My hushand has his car license since he was 18 but as he did not own a car in HK, we have to pay full premium in the first year, but if you did not claim any damages, you would entitle to receive discount from second year, you can check the following website for further details:

Metrotown is the largest shopping mall in Vancouver, you can get nearly everything there, they have both Chinese and Western supermarkets, restaurants, departmental stores etc, it's my favorite mall, it also has skytrain station, I would consider there South Burnaby(actually Metrotown is like on the boundary between North and South Burnaby).......around Metrotown at night is not too safe. Very near to Metrotown, there is a Chinese mall called Crystal Mall, there are apartments above that mall, they are a bit overpriced but lots of Chinese like to live there. But I don't like there.

I lived in North Burnaby, but not too far away from Metrotown, I sent my son to a pre-school nearby, it was mainly 鬼仔, before I enrolled my son, I visited many pre-schools, some of them have too many 唐人, some have too many Indians, some are montessori, I actually let my son have try-out lessons in a few pre-school before making my decision. I think the most important thing is to find a school that my son is comfortable with.

If my son continues to stay in Vancouver, I probably would put him into a private school, actually a Catholic school since our family are Catholics, it costs a lot cheaper than the normal private school, the Catholic private school only costs about C$200 per month whereas other private school costs about C$1,000 per month.

I am going to visit my family in Richmond with my 1-yr-old son for 4 weeks. I want to enrol him to pre-nursery for the time-being. I plan to check out those community centres. Pls advise if there is any good pre-nursery in Vancouver / Richmond which we could walk-in.

咁請問你覺得邊幾個Skytrain station既環境會比較好d？介唔介意話俾我知你以前住係邊一區(或街名)，咁我可以集中搵個區d屋，唔駛四維搵，可以慳番唔小時間，因為而家真係無咩頭緒。 :cry:

其實我以前都有諗過叫我老公去參加天主教個d慕導班，目的都係為左等小朋友可以入天主教學校(老實講，我知有好人都係咁做)，不過我自己係基督徒，諗來諗去都覺得唔係幾好，所以無咁做。算啦，我諗去到先再睇下邊d學校好囉。
