Charmaine didn't sing a song during the interview of Kentville. I couldn't hear what the teacher was asking her and what Charmaine has done because I was distracted by another teacher by asking me many questions. Since Charmaine doesn't understand Cantonese, that means I don't even have a chance to translate or help her when she was being asked. But at the last minute when we handed the application form, she was being asked by another teacher and I was behind her and did a bit translation, then she answered all questions like her name, who I am etc. She also said 'jo sun' and 'thank you' to this 'teacher of last minute'. So, I am also wondering if she will be accepted. I think chance are rare since she didn't say anything to the 1st interviewer as she doesn't undertand her at all, she she didn't sing anything at all!
I still hope for Kentville, then 2nd choice SC, 3rd choice, Either SN or PLKTAYSF (will go for interview by this coming Sat)
Thank you for your sharing. You all are very caring and experienced.
This is very true that Cantonese plays a very important role in communication, especially I would like to send Charmaine to local school. I feel very regret that we only speak in English with her when she was just born. However, since she was 18-month, we try to be bilingual with her, she can understand some basic Cantonese like 'give to, who, where, what, go there, get sth, for sombody, eat, drink, good morning, wait, yes, no...' etc. However, she got her own preference to use English even we speak to her in Cantonese. As to improve her Cantonese communication skills, I want to 'force' her by send her to a 'totally Cantonese' pre-nursery school, which I have enrolled 安基幼兒中心. Despite whichever kindergarten she will go, she will attend the pre-nursery by next year February until July or August. I believe this can force her to learn Cantonese and adapt to school life before going to KG.
Do you think these 6-month pre-nursery life would be enough for her to communicate in Cantonese? I still very much prefer Kentville (but 佢收我個女先算啦!!) then SC... (佢收我個女先算啦!).....
I am getting very nervous now.. everyday keep checking the mailbox!! Limyiu, Macy, Haomama, Ada, Candy_kent, do you feel the same?!
My ideal plan for Charmaine is to study 傳統學校 until Form 5, then would like her to study overseas. However, it all depends on my financial status at that time, because nobody will know how 15 to 20 years head could be.... so, to play safe, she should study in 傳統學校of HK.... at least she will be able to study in HK... so I agree that learning Cantonese and Chinese are equally important!!!!!!
