Yeah I wanna try your pigeon thing, I also want sum sum to use training cup to drink milk but she's not very good at using that so far...
Last week my girl suddenly refused to drink formula.
Usually i pump 3 times per day plus 1 time direct bf after work but she needs 5 meals of milk. Therefore i need to add one formula at morning. Also the volume i pumped just satisfy her need. That means no inventory at freezer. So poor.
To solve this problem, i tried to pump one more time at mid-night. No great improvement on the volume. Then i changed the style - direct bf at morning and express milk simultaneously.
It worked in first 3 days but some milk leaked out between the breast and pump. I think this is a technical problem and i can solve it later. From the 4th day, she was keeping direct bf about 5 minutes and she refused any more.
For example, this morning she had direct bf about 7 minutes and then she rejected me. At that moment 2 oz milk was pumped out. So i guessed she also had 2 oz milk already. When i pushed her to direct bf again, she cried loudly. Then i re-heated 3.5oz milk to her and she finished it. I could pump out 4oz more. Finally i got 6 oz milk at this morning.
Questions:
1/ She seems doesn't like direct bf anymore as she sometimes she turns me down at 19:00 (the meal after i worked). What can i do? If i express all milk by pump, the volume i pumped is less than direct bf. So what can i do?
2/ My mother has some explanation on this problem ---->As I directed bf to my gril at 19:00, 22:00 and gave 4oz at 0:00 on this Monday.
My mother said i gave too much. Normally i could pump out about 6-7oz at 19:00. So my girl may took 6oz (19:00) + 2oz (I guess she took 2 oz or more at 22:00) + 4oz(by bottle at 0:00). Total she may took 12 oz or more on that night. Afterwards she doesn't have any desire on milk and refuses direct bf.
This explanation seems quite logic. But will too much breastmilk reduce the desire of milk? I know this concept in formula.
3/ Any solution for me? If she taste her food is formula, she will push the teat out and ask for breastmilk.
1. Baby sometimes turns away when bf doesnt mean she doesnt want it. Sometimes they are too 8 and just want to look around! Dingding is like that also. What I will do is I forced him to suck or let him look around for 1 min then bf again! It is fine! But we need more patient only!
2. Not quite sure! Dingding has his dinner at k7-8 then I bf him. At 9:15, I bf him again before he sleep! So it seems fine to me!
3. Solution? You need solution? Yes you need way to increase your milk supply! But surely not solving the problem of rejecting formula. Pump regularly and pump 5 more min. even if there is no milk coming out! This will sent signal to your brain that you need more milk! After days, ur milk vol will increase!
