if u'll be staying in SF, u won't be missing the food in HK wor. actually the restaurants in SF are already good enough to me.

when u mentioned yr husband is a "scientist", i thought my friend's husband immediately. he always described himself as a scientist although he's a director or something in a biotech company in bay area now. sounds like yr husband has a similar background.

since yr husband work for university in HK, maybe UCSF is a good place to start working with. he should try checking out Stanford too.

btw, if u think yr husband didn't get any response for the job applications, can u try using someone else's address and phone number on the resume's contact info?

i've been a stay-at-home mom for more than 4 yrs now, coz i had problems getting a good nanny for my boy. so when he's 2, i gave up the idea of hiring a nanny and sent him to preschool for 1/2 day.
the other days, i was talking to couple moms of my son's classmates. they both said they had abt 10 nannies in 1 to 2 yrs. maybe we all are unlucky or what ...
if u're in SF, it might be a bit easier to get a nanny, coz there're more new immigrants from china are willing to take the jobs.

It's hard to get into UCSF without referral ar....my husband had already sent out the applications to the professors there, but they all said they don't have funding ar

That sounds really bad, SY_Mom.....Actually, I would rather work and hire a nanny or maid....where are you staying now?

Yeah, or untill your son is a bit older then you can send him to pre-school etc. I stayed home till my son was 11 months and I went back to work. My son is 18 months now.

I think the food in the bay area is ok. It's much better than some other mid-west states' Chinese food.

So you had been living/studying in Bay Area (or other part of CA) before you moved back to HK? How long did you stay in US? You think you like it in the States? I studied in the US many years ago and decided to stay here. I guess I won't get use to the living in HK nowadays...

BTW, my husband is also a scientist. Maybe we can hang out after you move here. :) Are you in bio-science field as well? I am in IT field tho.

I studied in S.F. from 1993 to 1999. When I moved back to HK in 1999, I didn't really want to stay in HK, but I got an offer from the Chinese University of Hong Kong. After staying in HK for more than 7 years, I am kind of getting used to the life here. When my husband got his immigrant visa and decided to move to the States in April 2008, I doubted about the moving because we have kind of quite stable life in HK. We have decent jobs with good pay(actually I am, my husband's job is by contract). But it's good for him to build up his career in USA. He is a researcher majoring in antibodies and immunotherapy. I have a biochemistry and MBA degree.....so I can apply some adm. management job...doesn't have to be in biotech company....
Yeah, we can hang out a bit when I get there.....please keep your eyes open for me if you know any good maid or nany I can hire...

i also wanted to have a f/t nanny and went back to work; however, we didn't have any luck in that. so we don't even dare to have another kid becoz of that.
actually i also lived in SF from 95 to 2000 but then moved to San Jose after i got married and got a new job based in cupertino.
did u and yr hubby study at UCSF?

my friend's husband works for a bio-pharma company. my friend always said her hubby "makes drugs". if yr hubby's interested, i can PM u their company's name. i just checked their web site. looks like the career page is not updated though, coz those postings are old and still listed Fremont as location, but they just moved to Redwood City.
have u checked out Genetech in So. SF? it's a great company to work for.
maybe u should ask bunnymonkey abt that field coz her husband also has that background. actually i don't know much abt that field.

Hi SY_Mom, thanks for your info. We did send our vitae to Genetech, but no response yet....I think they won't invite you for an interview until you are in the States, do you think so?

我已經係18號時安全抵美啦~
入境時真係好多好多人, 直情有D似返大6咁款添呀~

我妹話可能係因為呢排好多飛機delay左既關係,
所以d人就堆埋呢幾日一齊到埗啦~
今次入境時都ok, 可能同我爸媽一齊入境,
所以, 都無咩野留難我,
淨係問我爸出左去幾耐,係咪一家人一齊出去,
我爸話出左去一年, 咁就無野再問,
可能又係太多人既關係, 果個關員都做到有d負氣,
都無咩點理我地~
但可能佢太怱忙, 佢無係我地張報關表上cup 印,
所以, 到我地攞完行李要出去時, 被人叫左去搜行李,
因為我地張form no stamp on it 喎~
好彩我地都無咩特別既野帶左, 咁都唔怕,
我隨身既手提電腦都有報到, 個黑女人關員都好好人,
問我係咪全部都係新既野, 我話唔係, 有d新有d舊,
但新買既, 我就全部都有如實報俾佢知,
所以, 佢都無乜野, 淨係係咁依, 睇左兩件行李就算,
但因為入境排隊呀, 攞行李又等左成大半個鐘,
跟住又去搜行李, 都搞左成個幾鐘,
我妹佢地係外面等我地, 都仲以為我又被人困住添呀~
