depending whether you want the kid to go to playgroup or not and depending what kind of playgroup you enrol for the kid. for my case, my daughter only went to playgroup when she was around 14 months old and we only enrolled her to some local kindy-formed playgroup, it's only $8x per class. So, i didn't spend much on my daughter when she was under 1.5 age. when she reached 2, we sent her to full-day nursery which cost around $2,400 per month. apart from nursery class, we also enrolled her to some rather expensive playgroup which cost around $18x per class. so the monthly expense raised up to over $3000 per month.

are you planning to have baby?
$6000, hmmm ... I don't know. Depending on which kindy you'll send the baby to. I know that some kindies in Kowloon Tong are very expensive, around $3xxx per month (but just for half day). Also, see how many playgroups you'll enrol the baby to and how expensive are the playgroups...
in my case, $6000 should be more than enough. Since I was so lucky to have baby-Gap sponsorship from my friend's friend, and some other gifts from my friends, so we didn't need to buy much clothes for my daughter even until now (although we have no more sponsorship now)
re food
since my daughter was breastfed and she only drank 1 cup of formula every day, we didn't need to spend much on buying formula (formula is really expensive) and we spent around $25 for her congee (for 2 meals), so $ on meals was minimal. However, you may want to buy some snacks (eg cheese sticks, yoghurt, biscuits etc) for her, but these kinds of food are even more expensive than congee.
We spent more money on the kids' educational materials and toys though (although some can be hand made). however, i don't have the figures of how much we had spent on toys and educational materials.

re clothes
u can ask for 2nd hand clothes from friends. 仲有bb床,walker, bottle steamer, bottle warmer, beddings, toys, high chairs, shoes, 咩帶,尿片墊,尿片袋 etc, these are all 2nd hand from friends.
re playgroup
re milk
re nappy
re educational materials
can be home made
