If you have LSIL, it is not a usual practice to check the HPV status. Because, 80% of women with LSIL are high risk HPV positive. For LSIL, up to 30% of all women will have high grade CIN (CIN2 or 3), which would require treatment, mainly by LEEP. If the hospital has given you an appointment to go back early, they may not call you but will treat you when you go back for follow up. If the result showed only CIN1 (low grade), there is up 60-70% chance that it will go away by itself within 2 years. Therefore, people do not usually treat low grade CIN because treatment is not without risk or complications. However, if the low grade CIN1 persisted for 2 years or more or if the cervix is extensive involved, treatment sometimes would still be considered.
If you have HSIL, you have about 70% chance of having high grade CIN, which requires treatment. Up till now, there is no medicine to treat this disease. You definitely need a colposcopy examination and cervical biopsy. Depending on the age, occasionally, it can be self limited. However, surgical treatment is needed in most of the cases. Do not believe in anyone who told you that this can be treated with some kind of medications.
