Our doctor suggested our son to use Pulmicort for a year or two. He was on 2 times daily until he had a severe attack in July. Since then he is on 3 times daily. I suspect that our maid has not been administering the spray properly. Now I am doing it day and night time and the maid does the afternoon spray.
Are you using Ventolin when he is wheezing? Can you hear him wheezing? Only Ventolin can help the wheezing, so if he is wheezing, you have to give him Ventolin.
Asthma is chronic inflammation of the respiratory tracts. When it starts, it will thicken the wall of the tracts and produce mucus. It might eventually lead to bronchitis. You have to check with your doctor closely and if it's bronchitis, anti-biotic would be in order.
Our son had 2 flareups this June when he was first diagnosed to be asthmatic. He would stop wheezing after a day or two. Then he had a severe attack in July and he was hospitalized for 3 days. Since then he has been fine. So I could not offer you much experience. However, your son has been asthmatic for over a year, you should be able to tell when and why he would have a flareup. I would suggest you keep on giving him Pulimcort and see how it goes.
I know it's tough. I am worried to death when I hear him cough. :-(
