My son has the same problem too. He's a very light weight 29wk bb (less than 2 pounds) and his skin is as dark as my philippino maid, but both my husband and my skin are very white.
One of the nurses in hospital said if the bb has dripping it would make bb's skin darker, but i only see my bb having such dark skin but not other premature bb in hospital.
my bb is now 5 mths corrected age. Skin starting to get a bit lighter, but still look like he just went for sunbathing...
I think my bb is having similar problem as yours, very light weight for his age. But my baby was in much worse situation (born 900g born 29wks6d). He looks like an African baby when he was born actually. very very skinny and old looking, got eye bags, wrinkles, no fat at all. He stayed for 3 mths in hospital and had 2 operations, got brain damage...
My baby is now 5 mths corrected age. Luckily he gains weight pretty well these months (almost 17 pounds now) but very very short. Only 1th percentile based on corrected age.
For my case, it's definitely not gene. Both c6 and I are big size. Dr said it's because the placenta are not formed well so the nutrition could not be passed to the baby so he has mulnutrition. Some blood flood to baby already stopped when I did checkup at clinic, so the baby needs to be taken out by emergency c-section immediately.
I'm really glad that I went for another dr's check. Otherwise I would have lost my baby. Dr said he could only survive for at most a month more (i.e. 34 weeks) if no action is taken. He's really the one saving my baby.

Hello jor-mankiu, Just want to say hi. My boy was born at 30wk5d at 1.84kg. Same as yours, he is now almost 5 months corrected and weights 17lbs. So I know you must have done an awful lot to help him catching up with the weight and it's paid off! Congratulations!

Thanks a lot almaly. Thanks to the wonderful breastmilk! He doesn't have good digestion (he had 2 operations on intestine) so I think it's really breastmilk that helps because it's much easier to absorb and it's more nutritional.
My baby has been gaining weight well but he's very very short! He's still only 62 cm!
