2) green card 是否需要apply ?? 抑或在入境後移民局會安排後寄到我屋企 ??
3) 我在 hk 有 driving licence, 是否需要另外再學車 / driving test ??
4) 我大約會留至 11月中返香港, 如未有 green card 的話, 是否可以呢 ?? (因passport 內有一行印, 內容大概是此 visa 有效期為一年), 但會在5個月另29日再次入境...

There are quite a lot of Chinese in Austin. One of my uncles live in Austin, and there are a lot of Chinese at UT Austin. The easiest way to find Chinese communities would be going to a Chinese church there. I think there are 1-2 large ones. My uncle goes to ACC.

My family is in Houston, and we have been living there for 20 years. I am in HK now, and i will move back to the U.S. when the kids are older.

they normally will ask you for SSN card for the driving license, as they need to have a proove that you are US resident. But you can use your passport with your US Visa on it.
You can go and apply a bank account without your SSN card or Greencard, but you need to give them a copy once you receive it, as it relates to the tax as well.

Did you receive a package from US embrassy?? that they told you, it must be hand carry and should never opened it? that is the information to make your greencard when you landed in US. You will receive Green card once you landed and handed in that package automatically.
3) 我在 hk 有 driving licence, 是否需要另外再學車 / driving test ??
You can drive in US for 90 days if you have international driving license, then you still need to take the writen test and driving test. My suggestion is.. take some class before you go for the driving test, as US is left handed driving, Parking is the pain on the neck when you first came.

Yup, you sure can leave without receiving green card, but you must return within 5months 29 days, to keep your status (that is for people whom want to get their citizenship done in 5 years).

we don't have a discuss group here in BK, but you can set one up, may be you can get a group of mami here.
As New york, and New Jersey mami are not using BK, they use something else which I organized for them. so you can set one up for yourself.

In your case, who applied your application? who is the benefiency? you or your husband?
If your family applied it for you, you got no choice, you must land as the time frame given to you.
and I would suggest that you MUST wait until you receive your greencard and SSN card, get your bank account and driving license done before you leave, it takes up to 9 weeks, the reason is, you can apply the I-131 online and have it to return to HK, for 2 years period. In this case, you don't think about to be citizen in 5 years.
also, you need to show the proof that you have a job in hk and do you tax return every day, to keep your status.

In this moment, you can go to http://www.monstor.com to search for job and file your resume online.

Well noted & thanks a lot ! All my questions above were clear but only the Green Card, yes, I did received a sealed envelope from US Embrassy which ask for Hand-Carry on plane, does it mean I will obtain my Green Card once I cross the border at airport ??

you will receive your green card in 4 -9 weeks time period (you will not get your greencard at the airport), however, you don't need to do any procedure, as the package you had, you handed it to the officer, they will take care of it
How long you gonna wait for the Green card? depends on if there is any public holidays, your officer whom handles your case will go for vacation or not?... that is varies..
some like me, I got it within 4 weeks, but some did wait for 9 weeks in the community center I provide service.

If your driver license has been expired for a while, you usually have to do the written and driving test again. Even though people living in here and hold the driver license for a long time, they have to have the written test once in a while (usually every 10-20 years).

What is the use of social security card?

Social security card is your identity, similar to a ID card but even more important. It records all your personal information and it links to your taxation details and credit info. Everybody has to protect her identity and not to give out the SS number to people easily. You need to have a SS card to be able to work in US, to open up a bank account, to apply for school, to file tax, etc. Therefore, the first thing you have to do after landing is to apply for a Social Security card which will be mailed to your address once it's ready.

you do not need to come to US, as your husband is the benefiency. when you go to the US embrassy, you can tell the officer that you are not ready to come.
Your husband still need to go within that 6 months window period to make the visa "activate". you can wait until you are ready, then ask your husband to file the application of "follow to join". then that is the progress to activate your visa.
In this case, you can save the time. you do not need to worry about the time limit. As long as you keep your marriage with your husband, and when you are ready, you husband just need to sumbit the application, that's it.

What is I-131? If I take the I-131, I cannot be the
citizen in US.
I-131 is re-entry visa -- for all green card holder whom planned to leave US for more than 6months or a year. It is up to 2 years time.
applicant MUST present in US while files the application.

same here.. rose-mag answered your question. each person will have 1 SSN only, but you may have your card re-placed with different reason. Just like your HK ID card, same number, never changed, Function is the same.

you are welcome. I just try to help whatever I could, I can't say I know everything, but if not, I will go back to my workplace and ask those Social worker and we have the social security officer came over every month, so I could get the update info from him as well.

我老婆和女兒回港已經8個月了,她們是拿綠咭, 我知離開一般不能超過6個月,請問:
1) 人在香港, 我在美國可否幫她們申請回美証?
2) 我現在可以幫老婆和女兒做一些什麼,令她們保持
綠咭身份

they sure can return to US as their greencard is valid.
Greencard will be expired over 1 year, so as long as they return to US within 1 year, sure with no problem. However, they don't meet the criteria to apply for the naturalization. They need to count from the date of their last arrival.
You can not apply I-131 for them because they are not in US. Only resident who is in US, will eligible to apply I-131 回美証.
