c1997,
You can apply the child health plus (government health insurance for children under 19 years old, which if your yearly household income less than USD 80,000) you can check with your local social security office.
For yourself, yup, insurance is not cheap, but you still have to get one, especially you have daily medication to maintain your thyroid hormone.
Regular check up is very important for you!
That is good, that you had settled down. Good to hear that.
If you have other worries, come and share, that may help you to ease your stress..

c1997,
You're very lucky that your relatives here are happy and willing to help you. I don't see a lot of people having that. It takes a while to adjust yourself physically and mentally. I have been in here for almost 5 years but still sometimes feel lost and lack of sense of belonging. But, with my hands full with my kids, I'm more concentrated on their stuff now.
Welcome to USA.
Hi....long time no see and I hope you still remember who am I (I send you pm before and told you my special situation). I would like to let yo know that I will land in New York on 14/10/2009 and I would like to ask you whether you know it or not (or maybe other new comer can help) :-
1) when I arrive in New York airport, which line should I queue ?? Visitor or US citizen ??
2) what will be the normal question that they will ask me when I faced the custom officer ??
3) any special interview I need to take in airport ?? if so, how long does it take as I'm asking my family members to pick me up ;
Hope you can spend some time and look for your soonest reply by return, thanks!
Dear Chrisdia,
The officer will just collect your package which you have it with you right now, the package which must be hand carried, go thru resident line, show it to the custom officer, they will not ask you too much question. As this is your first landing. You must give them the package, sure HAND CARRIED them because it contains the documentation for your greencard application.
you will not have a specific interview over the custom unless they suspect your application.
the time flame will be as normal as you get thru like a tourist.
unless that will be a delay on your flight, or some other issue like you forgot your immigration package, your passport's name is different from your name on the package.. (all those impossible thing.. may happen). Otherwise, regular check out (from you landed, get out of the flight, waiting on the line in custom, claim your luggage, check your luggage-- if you don't have any thing to declare), it should be around 1 hour.. if you always travel, you may know better than me.. hee hee..
Congratulation..
Also, please remember to apply your medical insurance, you need it if you stay for good. I know you will return to HK, better wait until you get your green card and apply for I-131 so, you will have 2 year time limit for returning into US with no hazzard.

Besides the doc pouch, how about the X-Ray film ?? Do I need to take it by HAND CARRY as well ?? Since it is quite big which I think that's too hard to HAND CARRY it, please advise your kind idea, thanks!
Dear Chrisdia,
I had my package hand carried that day, in a large flat bag, I did not have the X-ray with me, as I was 26 weeks pregnant, so i did not do any X-ray. Is your X-ray sealed and Officer from embrassy mentioned that X-ray is your hand carried?
I would suggest you to call the hotline from US embrassy in HK. They will able to answer this question.
Sure other moms whom just get thru the immigration may advice as well.
Nillie

O...I see....I think maybe I check it with the clinic in HK (the one which I take the health inspection) as I think it should not be required as the US Embassy just send the doc pouch to me and emphasis that I MUST bring the doc pouch by HAND CARRIED and nothing related to the X-Ray film, anyway, thanks a lot !
Dear Chrisdia,
Do you have young kids?
we will have halloween party at Staten Island, as it is Saturday. If you interested, PM me.. we will have couples of BK moms gather Halloween party every year..
it will be lots of fun if you still in NY.
Let me know and have a safe trip to NYC.

The offier in HK Embassy told me that it is not neccessary to carry the X-ray film, just put it in your luggage bag and keep it for a month. When I went through the immigration of US, they did not ask me for it.
Hi, Nillie_Mami, I came to Philly on 4 Oct.

Chrisdia,
take a good break first.. I am here everyday.. as no where to go.. I will be in main office at Brooklyn 7th Ave for 3 days a week.. sure we will have time to catch up!
Well noted & I will try my very best to meet you some time later. Besides, when I take a look of the website about the application of "reentry permit" I 131, it seems that's just a form that I need to print it and fill in, then send them by mail after completed, isn't it ?? Or I take the wrong form, please advise your kind idea, thanks a lot again!
Chrisdia,
yes, it is just a form for you to fill it out..
however, you need to wait for your greencard or if you got your Alien number with you.
Also, you may need to do finger print (I don't know..) as some did request to do their finger print before they get their I-131.
If you fail to do your biometric collection, your application may be denied.. be careful of that!
