I think I've got it. Seems to be issue with nVidia.
As I don't have nVidia, I cannot check up those config
Check ur nVidia Control Panel and see if you could locate gfx options or something call ambient occlusion. If you do, turn it down or off. That's all u need to do.
For previous setting, i.e. (from false to true) ... (or true to false ???), would not aim at ur problem. So, u may forget that.
I'll keep my finger cross and let me know.
BTW, u r not the only one.

- activate AO in a game that doesn’t natively support it, do the following:
- Click on “Manage 3D Settings”
- Highlight “Ambient Occlusion.”
- Select either Performance or Quality. Performance is faster, Quality produces finer images. Prior to the release of the 256 driver series, Ambient Occlusion could only be set to “On” or “Off” in the NVIDIA Control Panel. Release 256 allows users to switch between two different quality levels, as shown below .
