with the employment visa, you could stay in Canada as long as your visa is valid. wife and children that come along will have to apply for dependent visa before they would enjoy free education (I mean study in public school). If they got the proper visa, then they could be deemed to be resident and enjoy the some of the benefit except the unemployment.
if got laid off, have to leave Canada, as employment visa bounded to certain employer only.
depends if you have all the document. In Toronto, there is a new immigration law that just passed last year. Everyone come here (no matter what qualification you have ), need to sit for hte english test (run by the government or the official TOFLE Test). so you better get your husband sit for hte TOFLE first before he comes.
I knew a girl - who came to study in 2003. Finished school in Jun 2005 and stay here to apply for immigration. She pay CA$2000 to the immigrantion company to help her to get a job in Nov 2005(to apply the employmente visa first).
with the employment's letter, she had submitted all the necessary form to government. got the reply saying her immigration visa will be granted if she could pass the English test. She did have the TOFEL but over 2 years, so need to find sometimes to sit for the exam.
I don't know if the time frame will be diff if you are in HK instead of in Toronto.
TOFEL is not a matter...we're both graduated in USA. It should not be a problem.
What we concern about is education. Is there anyone who can find out for me how much shall we spend on school fee? Or it's part of the welfare for a dependent visa holder??
so far I know if you got the dependent visa, you will enjoy all benefit as the PR - as long as your visa is valid.
study in the public school is of no charge, but still need to pay to participant to all school activities. study in the private school is diff - cheapest I guess is around CA$1000/month depending on what grade your children will be in.
