What language you speak to your daughter at home? English or Cantonese? Sometimes I think that my hubby should learn Cantonese with the baby otherwise he does not understand when we talk in Cantonese

I speak cantonese to her most of the time , but she speaks English back.Our maid is bunbun doesn't help. I guess after going to school will be better la. I don't really want my husband to teach her chinese because his cantonese is really "Gua loh" cantonese.

I think this is the dilemma of mixed family. I was trying to speak cantonese to my daughter but since she replies back to english, I switch to english automatically. I dont want to ignore daddy since he cannot understand chinese language and my daughter also pick up alot through our conversation.

Just wonder if your other half mind if your child first language is chinese? How your kids communicate with your in-law?

On our day off , I usually speaks more English to my daughter when daddy is around. But most of the time daddy understood what we talk about anyway, he understands a lot of cantonese. He has been in HK for over 18 years la.

My daughter speaks English to 婆婆 also because my mom speaks farely good English, but my mom tries to speak mostly Cantonese to my little one to boost her Cantonese.
Of course, 爺爺 & 女麻女麻 only English.... :-P :-P

我同老公講話Takumi大過讀local幼稚園，佢話一定唔得，一定要讀日本人學校喎，幾鬼大日本主義！！！

我地開始驚緊阿Ｂ第日有語言障礙 ?-( ，我老公識講廣東話，但好搞笑的，我識講少少日文，不過都係幾搞笑的......老公話阿Ｂ只需要識廣東話同日文，英文國語就大過Ｄ先學！

After I return to work in December, my mother will look after my son. My mom cannot speak English at all and she will talk in Cantonese only. Although my son cannot talk right now

, I think I will speak more English to him when daddy is around. My hubby has been in HK for over 16 years but his Cantonese is still hopeless

He mentioned before that we should speak more English when he is around because he want to know what we are talking about.

Honestly, I think if my son pick up Chinese as the first language, my hubby will mind even though he said he doesn't. (He told me that his mother was worry that our son does not speak English when he grow up.) But language acquisition is amazing and a baby can pick up two languages easily

I think Takumi will be fine because your mother will look after him ma. Don't let your hubby to teach him Cantonese

Maybe you will talk to him in English when he is getting older. Will he study in Internation school when he get older or go to Japan afterwards?

layon>We will move shortly before the due date, probably on 7 Jan as we will get the keys from the owner on 6 Jan. My mom has agreed on that as she also wants me to be near her around the due date!

Haha, all of my friends has reminded me that I shouldn't let Takumi to hear his dad's Cantonese...which is too funny!

The Japanese Schools in HK offer education until Secondary Grade 3, after that, Takumi will have to choose between IS in HK or back to Japan...but too far away for me as he is still in my tummy!

The photo, yes, I like that one. One night when I was lying on the bed and found that was a very interesting angle! Actually I couldn't see my feet, so I put them on a cushion to make the photo a bit more astonishing!
